By the way, something that possibly makes things easier is to start on a caves map. Raiders (and sometimes friendlies) will pass by the insect hives and decide to attack the bugs. Wait until the bugs have annihilated everyone and returned to their hive, then scavenge what's on the ground.

It's map-dependant.

On all maps you can shoot predator and run for cover and let them deal with it. If caravan is not big they can have a hard time. Repeat several times.

OP, if you change the naked brutality scenario to be a tribe instead of crash landed tech then you usually get a better selection of starting pawns to choose from.  They have a much better chance to survive solo since the negative trait pool is so much larger for the space farers.

It does make the game more challenging in other ways of course though.  I enjoy it more that way however.

In arctic climate, why not at least have a FEW trees, randomly 1-5 trees so at least there's a slim chance. Isn't that at least a bit more fun?

Not sure it has changed.

That's interesting. I normally play with crashlanded techs, but for the game I mentioned in my post, I was actually tribal, and I did notice that the pawns I was rolling were way better than usual. I thought I was just being lucky, I didn't know it was programmed that way.

Anyway, despite the encouraging words of some people in this thread, I did not use dev mode to save my pawn. I just can't bring myself to do it. I gave up and just started another game. From now on, what I might do is just start on Cassandra and switch to Randy after a year or two in game, because I think that this will reduce the chances of genuinely unfair events like this. And by the way, I always see people saying that Cassandra is harder than Randy, but I'm really not seeing it so far. It's just one game, but I feel like the bad events are less bad and last for a shorter amount of time than with a Randy of the same or even lower difficulty.

Also it's good idea to use PrepareCarefully for Naked Brutality games. I always start Tribal with no traits and using 709 points to make new game fair and interesting (it's basically pawn with no skills but normal interest in all fields). And I set a goal that this pawn should definetly be launched in space.
