Sudden black screen failure to start

The game worked well yesterday, and today I get a black screen with a cursor. I am playing on MacOSX Ventura 13.6.6, and have changed nothing along the way.

No mods installed. No DLCs installed.

Removed the config and saves directory, no change (except it started starting fullscreen instead of my previous windowed setup).

Removed entire game and reinstalled through steam, no change.

When I look in Player.log there are a LOT of reports about not being able to load libadvapi32, which is expected to sit in /Users/[user]/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/RimWorld/RimWorldMac.app/Contents/Frameworks/MonoEmbedRuntime/osx/ - but /Users/mik/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/RimWorld/RimWorldMac.app/Contents/Frameworks/ does not contain a MonoEmbedRuntime directory at all.

In earlier rounds, this log file also contained a lot of complaints about context leaks, but currently the game won't start and these errors are absent.

When googling to resolve the problem, I don't see any mention of libadvapi32 anywhere, and I can't go back in time to yesterday to check if either this issue or the file were there when it worked.
