organ harvesting

i love the new organ harvesting feature, however i think a few improvements could be made, for example i think unless a person loses their heart and both their lungs they should live a short while afterwards (it could be interesting to sell a dying prisoner or have them go crazy and riot because they are dying), i removed someone's liver and they just died instantly, so i couldn't remove any more organs.

which brings me onto the next improvement you should be able to harvest organs from a freshly dead body, that could become a bit of a gold mine but maybe a person would need a certain level of medical skill to perform organ extraction (so only a few people could harvest organs) without damaging the organ and also organs could get damaged by whatever killed the person, also maybe if this was added he could add the need to build a container for organs to be stored in and sold, so it wouldn't be easy to make piles of money off of a slaughter.

in addition i think more organs could be used for transplant like maybe legs and arms could be transplanted, also animal organs could be transplanted but have very little market value, like you could give one of your colonists a deer heart and they may be more energetic and walk slightly faster, or give them monkey feet and they could hold an extra melee weapon with it, or maybe some organs would give debuffs but it would be better than death or if you are mean it could be worth the money for the human organ.

any other organ harvesting suggestions anybody?

That is plain silly.
One thing you should be able to harvest from a dead person (even without a great medic) are his implants. It feels a lot cyberpunk thug to do so, but we are talking about survival here.

harvesting implants seems like a good idea.

also an additional suggestion for harvesting would be blood, maybe that would later tie into making medikits, but blood is typically essential in surgery and could help people who suffered blood loss

EarthyTurtle

Harvesting cybernetic implants would be very useful. Dunno if that might get a bit op over time however.

But harvesting animal parts? Sorry but I just don't see this being plausible thing. The human body requires immense care just to transplant living tissue from another human (in some cases it failed entirely), let alone from another species entirely. It's just not possible, I personally wouldn't want to see it as a game mechanic either.

Am I the only that think organ harvesting is the single most evil thing in the game right now?

It was kind of funny watching Ty presentation  "why don't we make some money of her too (your colonist), lets just harvest her left kidney". I mean, it's not dark, it's plain evil lol

But yeah, +1 for harvesting bionics out of dead people, indeed very cyberpunkish

How about a life-support system (advanced hospital bed tech?) to keep people alive long enough to do heart/liver transplants or to remove more organs before they die? Bionic heart, maybe?

Also, performing surgery should give medical experience. I wanted a mad doctor who "practices" a lot.

Also optionally, make organs removable after death but include a failure rate that increases the longer they've been dead.

And finally, brains removable? Can put 'em in robots.

+1 For harvesting implants
+2 for harvesting organs from recently deceased bodies. Its what we do in real life...

Have it so every colonist has a % chance to start with a Donor card item that allows organ harvesting after death.  :P

Johnny Masters

+1 for harvesting implants
-2 for harvesting organs from recently deceased bodies. 1) the window to harvest a recently dead is thin, sometimes shootout lasts for hours, despite being just a few minutes for the player. 2) too exploitable, you'd end with hundreds of organs to sell and this is survivor not Organ Harvest Corp - The organ harvesting simulator. Or so i hope.  3) Unless they have a very low lifespan/duration. So you'd harvest just for that operation and not for profit. I actually don't know how long a harvested organ lasts once its out of its owner.

+2 for donor card and mad scientist

we can already transplant pig hearts into humans, and obviously there is some kind of futuristic anti rejection drugs used in rimworld for cybernetics and easy transplant between different people,so it doesn't seem impossible in the rimworld universe to transplant animal organs, however maybe that will be for later if we ever get to breed animals we could breed genetically engineered ones.

yeah a high tech hospital bed (or life support system) sounds like a good idea, and maybe it could even be used to keep people with damaged organs or missing organs alive indefinitely until we find a transplant for them.

and yeah brains for robots sounds like the ultimate in cybernetics, and maybe instead of food and sleep the robot people will need charging :)

I would like to see the life support bed. and when organs are shot perhaps they would give you a short amount of time before they fail. So if your colonist takes a arrow to the liver you can get him to a bed and put a new one in him, or keep him alive until you can cut one out of a prisoner.
I remember the days of giving prisoners peg legs, and then removing them to immobilize them.

I think its kinda weird, I captured a guy who had a bullet in his kidney and I quickly harvested it but when I gave it to another person(kidney lost in gunfight it didn't have damage

I'd really like to see these changes. Life support alone would open up a lot of choices about harvesting organs and using medicine. Putting a clock on severe injuries aside from blood loss would make casualties way more interesting and introduce triage elements into the game.

Did you harvest the other kidney? I didn't think you could harvest damaged organs (until they healed up).
Some sort of psychic wave has swept over the landscape. Your colonists are okay, but...
It seems many of the scythers in the area have been driven insane.

I might have by mistake harvested the wrong kidney
