Is there a way to disable the autosave feature?

As the title says, can i disable the autosave function somehow? If yes, where/how?

Tynan

You can't. Why do you want to anyway? Just don't like the time it takes?

There is no reason as to why disable the autosave... It makes different files for you at large intervals, and you can Save your own files. :/
When it saves it only takes a second and it doesn't even pause the game.

I prefer to play "ironman" style, so I'm not saving ever manually in a game like this(unless I have to stop playing...)

While I can see how highly usefull this autosave is for an alpha build, which can crash(altho I hadn't crash so far), or just for the rare occasions when power goes away in ur house for example.

However it does interrupt the gameplay every so often. I dont mind background saving methods, which is just happening w/o u realizing it ingame at all or just gives a notification on the side of the screen. In this game tho, it gives us an autosave text at the middle of the screen, and also locks the game entirely for that 1-2 secs.

Yes we can say that it is only 1-2 secs.. but from my perspective, that is 1-2 secs wasted from gametime which is precious for some. Also it is kinda annoying when there is a big fight, and im microing my guys just to have a screenlock/message pop for 2 secs on my middle of the creen.

Dunno how ppl think about this, but I would like to have an option to turn this off in the settings menu, and not just "forcing" the user to "deal with it". Or as I mentioned optimalize it if its possible, so the player wont even notice it during a fight. (side pop message, instead of middlescreen and no lockout from the game(run it in a seperate thread, instead of the main))

@TheXIIILighting uhm, It does pause my game for sure. I'm using the alpha 7 build with More Hair, EDBInterface and EDBPrepareCarefully mods.

Yes, it pauses mine, too.  In fact if I am in the middle of a mouse click-and-drag at the moment that the autosave fires, after the screen freeze while the save happens, it will often leave my mouse in sort of a weird state that doesn't go back to normal until I click a few more times to clear whatever drag action I had been doing.

I get the same thing Mystic does.  It pauses for ~5sec on my PC.  Granted, my PC is pretty ancient...

My game runs on SSD and I have an Ocd i7, so thankfully I have only 1-2 secs autosave times, but omg 5 secs pauses for some ppl? Then we definately need the ability to turn this off.

I encounter 1-2sec Autosave times, but for me the problem is frequency. Sometimes when playing on 3x speed (Or 4x with dev mode on, which is the only reason I use it), it becomes almost overbearing.

I don't mind the popup, but maybe a frequency in the options that can be adjusted??

This would be very much to my liking ... I'd probably ramp the autosave frequency down to a couple of times a week if I had that as an option.  Although an additional on/off option wouldn't be amiss either ... I probably wouldn't turn autosaves off myself because I do like the protection against crashes, but it seems like it should be a simple enough option to provide to those who want it.

Only thin that bothers me is the thing Mystic mentioned about being in the middle of a drag state (why am i always dragging when it saves...), otherthan that its not THAT intrusive...but to each their own.
Skullywag modded to death.
I'd never met an iterator I liked....until Zhentar saved me.
Why Unity5, WHY do you forsake me?

tarickstonefire

Using an SSD on a 2009 MBP and I pause for about 2secs max. Isn't that annoying, but can interfere with dragging as mentioned.

In the name of flexibility I'd like to see an Autosave option that lets you turn it off, or reduce the frequency. But it's not a deal breaker if not. If you want to play Ironman, just don't use the autosaves. Personally, though, a game in alpha can bug out sometimes and I like being able to open an autosave.

i have the same problem (i dont have ssd drive), it spams me and slow down the game. If we could choose the intervall saving, it would be more convenient and enjoyable.

It'd be really neat to be able to increase the intervals it autosaves at, or disable it for an ironman/hardcore mode. But I'd rather see Tynan work on features than on changing autosave for now.

Ultimate ironman would be no saves no pause :)

Tynan

Okay. I'll write this on my to-do, we'll see if/when I get to it.

It's also a tad risky just because it's an alpha game. I don't want people losing their ironman game because of my stupid bug.

I could just set an Ironman mode that just saves over the same game over and over. Hmm.

Having an actual Ironman Mode in the game sounds very good to me.

Don't worry too much about the gamebreaking bugs for ironman players. I mean yea, ofc it is not ideal if we have anything like that, but believe me when I say those who actually prefer this playstyle understands the risks too. I lost many-many HC chars due to server being offline or laggy in diablo 3 for example or just because they made a change to a skill, which was not mentioned in any kind of patchnotes...anyone remembers the wizard's force armor's max HP limit change? :). Show me 1 ironman Xcom player, who didn't die at least once because he tried to click somewhere to move his soldier, but the soldier went a different way cuz of the buggy layout... So yea, ppl get used to the problems :)
