Someone give me a challenge, please.

I feel like I have effectively reduced RimWorld to methodology at this point; stockpile resources, farm food, build structures, fight off enemies. Not that I'm saying the game is boring now, or anything; far from it, actually. But I think I need an actual challenge to face, rather than simply playing around with random colonies in temperate environments, even if I do turn up Cassandra to 160%.

So I'm asking you, my fellow forumites, as my first post on the forums of this great game, to give me a challenge to overcome. You may name specific terms and conditions for a new game, such as a minimum temperature biome, embarking with a ship full of psychopaths, having me build a spaceship to escape within X days, forbading me to use any food except nutrient paste... ooh, that might be interesting. I already have issues keeping my guys' mood up as is. Seriously, though, if someone could give me a challenge like that to make things interesting, I would really appreciate it. I'd even make a story out of it so that you all could track my progress. So c'mon! Hit me!  8)

Welcome to the forums!
Might I suggest Urban Defense?
No killboxes, no visible fortification, just a town, and trying to survive that way, you can build sandbags if you have to, but leave it light. try to avoid heavier weapons, and to keep as many colonists unarmed as possible.

Avoid heavier weapons? What classifies as 'heavy'? Just miniguns and rocket launchers? Or should I add sniper rifles to that list? Also, leave as many colonists unarmed as possible? It looks like the person who built the town at that link has armed nearly every colonist with at least M-16s, and more than a few with charge rifles. What classifies as 'as few as possible'? A certain percentage of my colonists? I usually fight with only two out of five at any given time, anyway, and that generally works for me. I also don't use killboxes; I always kill my enemies on the fields as they come. Of course, I have been using turrets to distract raiders, too, so... meh.

Still, this 'urban' style seems promising... though I might wind up doing something a little more decentralized than a full-blown armory building. A weapon rack for every house sounds about right; I could stock both melee and ranged armaments as necessary, that way. Any other conditions in mind? Or mods?

(And thanks, btw; I'm really glad to be here. I was always a big fan of Dwarf Fortress, and RimWorld has all the charm of DF combined with a far more easy-to-grasp gameplay system. I'm really looking forward to seeing where it goes!)

No problem, just have fun and enjoy!
The guy who did it was just an example of the setting or layout, that was back a few alphas, the raids came real fast, and real hard back then.

Heavy weapons would count as miniguns, Rocket launchers, sniper rifles and similiar weapons. The M16 and R4 should be fine.
For the numbers, as little as possible, if you have 10, have maybe 3 or 4 at most protecting the town, conscripting more if needed, using smaller teams instead of brute force, but by the sounds of it you've got that part covered already.

maybe settling in a hot jungle, so you run a higher risk of diseases and infections, while also having to battle off the heat, mods up to your discretion, or if anyone else wants to suggest something, If Tech Tree Minami was still around I would suggest that, since you're after challenge, but Minami's been MIA on holidays.

If you can manage help them all survive, you can further the scenario,
that is, playing on ice sheet,
then, 24 hours cold snap per day.

And in... you really don't need kill-box since you can build a bunker with colonists inside.
An invincible bunker that some enemies will not attack.
Other things may be human oven, freezer room, steam heat stroke room, etc.
Steel is food. Steel is defense. Steel is weapon.
Steel is RimWorld.

Combine Icesheet mod + prepare carefully. Start with naked guys in -30' and survive :-) It is possible and it is fun.

^ My community colony started out that way, actually. Quite fun!
