Yes! I have a cim mining plasteel half-way across a giant map. She'll spend the entire friggin day mining and at the end return to sleep leaving everything she's mined there.

May I add another potential bug/balance issue?

I'm playing a permanent summer map. There was a cold snap in Winter and, naturally, every lake froze over. That's fine ... but now it's the 8th of Aprimay and it's 18 C outside .... yet the lakes are still frozen over.

The most recent update seems to have taken care of the problem. Never mind.

In-game nothing from SI appears. The SI tab is blank, despite having researched several initial techs. I have Vegetable Garden installed, but I don't how to install the patch you have included in the zip. SI loads after VG.

Never mind, I may have reacted prematurely. I'm seeing some of the products mentioned here and there. I guess the tab itself isn't utilized until further down the tree.

Ummm...yeah...screw that adfly shit. Even his link to steam is posted through adfly.

Isn't there a mod that disables the intervals of silence between the music? I forgot what it was called. But it's great, thank you!

I've never used this mod and I've been monitoring it closely anticipating it's release!

What exactly does the auxiliary ai do? Is this like a supplementary "brain" that we can surgically add onto people? I bought one since it had a substantial medical perk, but I have no idea what to do with this.

Also, I don't know how to use the search feature in this forum very well to find exactly what I'm looking for. It didn't seem like anyone had asked this before.

They should just stop complaining and appreciate the variety of food they get to enjoy.

Stories / Re: Most raiders at one time I have had
March 16, 2014, 03:37:08 PM
You guys have a lot more patience than I do. I usually quit at about 150 days because my population stagnates and I get raided by these grenadiers that claim many skilled workers who never get replaced.

If there was at least some structured means to repopulate the colony, this would be much more endurable. But when the prospect of increasing the population is entirely up in the air, it could take anywhere from a few days to a few months before the opportunity arises to arrest or purchase a new colonist, it becomes difficult to endure.

And on top of all of this, the battle mechanics are borderline moronic. I often find colonists running head first into the line of fire.

Well, what do their thoughts say? You should study that, since the problems faced by each colony are unique to the player.

Shouldn't place much of an emphasis on the plants, they really don't make much of a difference.

Your priority should be to build a nutrient paste dispenser. After that give them all their own room and a bed. You don't even need carpets.

The greatest source of unhappiness for me has been the corpses, if I stack them all up in a dump. Any time they pass by to drop a boulder, they suffer from that terrible negative effect. So make sure you specialize each dump, keep all the corpses piled up in the peripheries of the map.

It's totally random, so that just looks like some interesting luck. Chances of a farm vessel 4x in a row are (1/3)^4, or 1/81. There are two other choices for non-slaver ships, industrial and combat.

They'll be easy to mod in next build.

Huh, well thanks for explaining the math. I thought the slaver ships were included in the odds.

How is the frequency of the slaver ships determined? I'm assuming there's a background pop cap, after which no travelers or slavers show up, kind of like Tropico. Because I haven't had one of those for a while now.

Hopefully there'll be some way to modify the rate at which these things appear, because it becomes a bit aggravating after awhile. The worst part was that they all popped up within ~5 minutes of when I ran out of metal after a binge of mass construction.

General Discussion / Re: Honest confession of a pirate.

"Ozymandias - this would be the case, if there was only one pirate on the earth who pirates a game he would otherwise buy ;) But this is not the case, and - let's say it out loud and face it - noone really know how many purchases are lost or gained due to piracy. There is simply no reliable way to measure that."

I'm having some difficulty understanding this and also understanding how this is relevant to what I said.

But people have studied this matter extensively. Considering that many very large corporations are losing a considerable amount of money due to this, I bet they've studied it more than we will ever know.

But I found this: http://www.dailytech.com/Nearly+Half+of+Americans+Pirate+Casually+But+Pirates+Purchase+More+Legal+Content/article29702.htm

"Saying that "nothing tangible is lost so nothing is lost" is but a demagogy. As is analyzing a global problem in micro scale."

Calling that statement demagogy is an escape tactic. Try criticizing what I've actually said, versus passing it off as an appeal to an audience which I do not possess. Considering pirates are actually in the minority, and have absolutely no credit to their name, I'm trying to figure out how that statement of yours made any sense whatsoever.

"I wish it would be so simple. I know of many people who do the same as I - use piracy as a extended demo, and often buy the games they dislike, because they clocked over that magical barrier where you really should pay for it. But it's not like that, and saying that you know for sure what pirates do is simply a lie."

I've made no absolute statements. We're speaking of social trends, there's nothing absolute about this conversation. The fact is, if they were willing to pay for the game, why would they pirate it? Kind of self-explanatory. You believe that if the option didn't exist for them to steal it, then they would be forced to pay for it and they would pay for it. But that's assuming that these people have the money to pay for it in the first place, and sufficient desire for the game.

"You have to realize many pirates... wouldn't buy (it) any ways..."

This is actually a very good point.

The media has effectively synonymized pirating with thievery. The distinction is pretty significant. But I'm not about to get into all of that. Let it suffice that when one steals, tangible resources are lost--a potential sale which could have gone to a paying customer. In the digital world: nothing is lost. It's comparable far more effectively to copying. People argue that the developers time and energy isn't compensated for. But this begs the question: how would $50 compensate a developer of his time and energy? That investment on the part of the artist is divided into thousands if not millions of segments. Which we then satisfy through our individual purchases.

The individuals who are pirating, wouldn't have bought the game, so they wouldn't have made their contribution anyways. But! If they like it enough, they will reconsider. And I've heard of plenty of instances of this happening.

So....there isn't the slightest hint when the next update is going to be revealed?
Well hopefully the game will have much more content then, because it's terribly lacking.

Craft the World would be a good game to study in this respect.

Release will be in next two weeks up to a month from now, from what Tynan said.

As for CtW... one, it was greenlighted in August, so it has a huge head start. Two, from what I can see it suffers from typical for these games "+1 = new" syndrome. I really hope we'll get something more interesting that "a wild solar flare starts! now a completely different raging solar flare begins! This one is different too, because it's a mega solar flare!" type of new content. And I'm pretty darn sure this will be the case. But these things take time, and as such, shouldn't be expected of a very early pre-alpha builds.

The game is not "lacking", it's "incomplete" ;)

............I said it'd be a good game to study to get an idea of what kind of content to include. I.E. the many varieties of wall types, dozens of pieces of furniture, articles of clothing.

I didn't say he should compete with CtW because it's such a great game. Why is everything a fucking competition in this goddamn culture.
