General Discussion / Re: Rimworld Wiki!
September 23, 2013, 09:46:02 AM
OK, I managed to add a basic Infobox for Templates...

It's at http://rimworld.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Structure and contains the following fields:
  • title
  • image : Name of the uploaded image
  • imagewidth : For a small image, use "Original"
  • size : the number of tiles used by the structure (ex: 2x2)
  • cost : How many resources it costs to produce that structure (ex: 3 [[Metal]])
  • health : How many HP the structure has
  • movement : Speed of characters walking through that tile (ex: 80%)
  • note : Anything useful
(Every attributes but Size is hidden if unset)

It might be useful to find a clean way to add if the structure is powered, and if it conducts power.
There might be other attributes to add as well.

I've uploaded a few images (taken from Hypolite's screenshots), and I've been trying to create templates, in order to display an infobox for items, with an image, and the stats provided in the wiki.
Problem is, that's a bit complex and I don't have the know-how.

If anyone has done it properly before and could provide templates, that would be awesome...

Ideas / Re: Suggestion and Discussion Megathread

You can probably tie the micromanagement possibilities to (yet another ?) difficulty slider of sorts.
But then, how many different difficulty settings (counting AI) do you want to have ?

The effect applied everywhere looks nice on the planet, but not so much on the shuttle/pod/thing, IMHO.
Did/can you try to tone down that effect a bit there ?

Also, the "I"s  don't really need dots :P

I have one suggestion, but it's not for the game itself, rather the very site we are on...

There's a blog, but it may not get that much interaction (aka verrrry few comments on the entries).
I know I tend to lurk forums, but rarely what's around them, so is there any chance to have the blog entries tied to the forum ?
That means that you write your entries in the blog, but they "lead" to the forum (you might as well create a new category for that): people that want to add a comment to the blog are directed to the corresponding forum post, and (more interesting, from my PoV) people that stay in the forum can see the new entries and react to them.

That might not be crystal-clear, but hopefully you see what I mean.

On a different note, Yarkista, please get rid of the dot at the end of "Suggestion and Discussion megathread."
You could even capitalize "megathread" to "MegaThread", for consistency.

There's clients and clients.

I don't mind a client for a specific game (and after all, multiplayer games are all clients... and sometimes servers, but please stop making my thoughts go adrift), but what I *do* mind is a mandatory client for a distribution platform.

Hmmm, the way I understand it, Desura *is* a client you have to use, which means I'm not touching it either.

As I mentionned earlier, did you consider GoG as well ?

It does have some visibility, and I'm sure I'm not the only one only swearing by it...

"Rimworld-guide" ?

The first thing that popped in my mind when I read that was "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Rimworld"...

Don't thank me, I strive to share.

The problem is not as much Steam asking consistently for exclusivity (doubtful for indie productions anyway, I'd wager) than devs not bothering with anything else, I suppose.

Anyway, you made my day, so I'm preparing the operation so I can have your babies.
(just in case: figure of speech yet again, sorry folks :P)

Perhaps OP should edit the OP so that all the reviews are in one place at the start of the thread.
That'd be OP !

What gave me out ? ::)

I really don't care about Steam existing, but what really irks me are the "exclusivities".
If I don't want to use a system, I surely don't want to be forced to use it either...
So it's very sad when I find a promising title, and it's not available out of Steam (or Origin, for that matter, but Steam has been there much longer): it ultimately means no money for the devs even though I'd love to shower them with it (don't go crazy, that's a figure of speech).

I'll definitely try my hardest to make that happen.
Can we hope to have it available *out* of Steam as well (ideally GoG, but just about anything else, really) ?
