Mod bugs / Re: Constant error
July 06, 2017, 10:35:34 AM
Like Calahan, I'm thinking the error you're seeing is mod related. I'm going to move this thread to Mod Bugs and maybe someone there can help you out.

The graphics thing is a separate issue that isn't causing obvious symptoms right now, but may in the future. For whatever reason, RimWorld (or more likely the Unity framework) isn't able to initialize DX 10+. You could ignore it for now, but keep it in mind in case something breaks graphic-wise.

In the Beta tab for RimWorld on Steam, choosing the NONE option means you're using the latest RimWorld, which is A17b as of right now.

@Milon:
1. I don't think this is the problem since my friend is using windows 10 and DX9 too but she still hear the sound. I tried to update the driver, but it said the driver is up-to-date

Sorry if I wasn't clear. That's a separate issue all together and wouldn't affect sound. But it's still best to fix it before it becomes a problem.

Windows 10 will always use DX 10/11 and will only revert to DX9 if something (usually the graphics driver) doesn't support anything higher. Also, don't rely on Windows Update - it's good for updating Microsoft software, but it's unreliable for everything else. You need to manually check what graphics card you have, then go to the manufacturer's website and look for their latest driver. Your friend should update her graphics driver too.

Your log file states you're using DX9, which "shouldn't" happen on Windows 10. Which means you've got a graphics driver issue going on too. Check for a driver update. (This is a separate issue, of course.)

EDIT - Don't rely on Windows Update for any non-Microsoft updates, btw.  Lookup your specific graphics card on the manufacturer's website and get the latest driver there.  It may not be causing an obvious problem now, but being stuck on DX9 in Win10 will eventually cause a problem for something.

That's a strange issue.  It sounds more like a Steam Client issue than a RimWorld issue.  Have you checked the Constant "Downloading" on Steam thread?

What happens when you download mods for other games?

What operating system do you use?  And is it a desktop or laptop?

Did you try restarting your computer yet?

1. Looks like you're running the Steam version on a Windows platform.  What version of Windows are you running?

2. Do you get this error when you run a game without mods?  (Specifically, a game that was created with no mods and hasn't had any mods introduced.)  This could honestly be a mod collision issue.

1. You're on Windows 10, but your log file reports using only DX9.  That means you've got a graphics issue going on too.  Check for a driver update for your graphics card.  If you don't find an update, tell us what card you're running & what driver version.

2. There's a bunch of errors related to HugsLib or a mod depending on it.  Try running with no mods and see if that solves your problem.  Let us know either way.

If you do need assistance, please also tell us what version of Windows you're running.

You can also try logging out of the system, and closing/restarting your browser in case something got cached improperly. And don't forget to check your email spam folder in case something got lost there.

I have twice made an entire website from scratch!

... using nothing more than oldschool Notepad & Paint.

^ Like that time when they ate without a table?  ;)

So you got it fixed then?

And yeah, the log file says "client has 4 screens" at one point.

It's possible.  If you have too many active pawns, and they're all asking for jobs/pathing/etc, yes that's a big CPU drain and if you reduce the number of pawns (ie. by deleting trivial/dead/missing pawns) you can reduce the CPU load.

You could also upload your log file (see link in sig) if you want us to take a look just in case.

Scyless, did RimWorld work with no mods?  Did you test it with no mods?

It could be mod related, but it also could be graphics related.  I'm not a *nix guru, so I can't provide much support there, but the "Shader compilation failed" part makes me think graphics.  Also, you have 4 displays on your system?  o_O

I picked up FTL and Banner Saga.  Both look awesome, but I haven't had time to dive in yet.

I'm probably in a minority with my opinion, but I believe that political discussions (and religious and other hotly debated topics) should NOT be banned.  (Note: This is all personal opinion. I'm not speaking for Ludeon or Tynan or anyone else.)

If we ban political discussions, then it's because we think it's doesn't need to be discussed (or at least, not here).  If we think we don't need to talk about it here, it's because we think it's unimportant.  If we think it's unimportant, it's because it has no impact on us personally.  And if it has no impact on us personally, it's because we're both privileged and disconnected from the non-privileged.  And I think that's unacceptable for any community of people.

Think about the world we live in, and the problems we face.  Then consider how that would change if we all lived as if we really are connected with one another.  And then ask yourself which world you would rather live in.  I think it's an easy question to answer, even though it demands a lot of hard work up front.  Work that I don't think we should ban.
