What other games do you play that are like Rimworld??

Dwarf Fortress. It's what all games of this genre are based off of. It was the originator, and remains the king of "hands free" settlement sims.

Craft The World is another game with a similar feel - you designate areas to be mined, and your dwarves jump around like retards to do it. It's pretty fun for a day or two, then you realize that developers who refuse to add one-click crafting should be summarily executed.

Gnomoria = Dwarf Fortress - Good + Graphics. Pass on this one.

Towns - another game where you give orders, watch bad pathing get people killed, and lul. This game has a twist in that you are building a town for heroes to show up and start beating the hell out of the monsters below your town. It's okay, but unfinished.

Prison Architect - has 100% less anal rape than it should, but overall it's a great game. Almost identical graphics to Rimworld, great gameplay, hilarious disasters, and constant updates. Build a prison. Watch it go wrong. Lul.

Clockwork Empires - made by our good buddies over at Gaslamp, this game is pretty good. Yadda yadda, give orders, build things, order production. Do not play if you don't understand steampunk. Do not play if you do not understand Lovecraft references such as Deep Ones. Do not play if you have a wooden computer. An amazing game that will only get better with each update.

I like Gnomoria and have played the heck out of it :). Not sure what you mean by - the good, as I also am a big fan of DF(no game will ever compete with DF considering it's development cycle)..

dwarf fortress - I was never interested in this, based on it being ASCII art.  Enjoy the eye bleeding page.
gnomoria - Buggy and unfinished, possibly abandon, the thing I like about it over Rimworld though, the ONLY thing, is it has Z levels with AI that can path find around it.  :P
folk tale - Looks interesting, but I can't afford it so meh.
banished - Appears to be totally abandon, slightly unfinished, and a mess, otherwise it's good.
towns - Appears to be abandon and impossible to play.
craft the world - Looks somewhat interesting.  Haven't tried.
maia - Looks absolutely amazing, I wish I could afford it.  :P  Then again, so far all games I've bought that "looked amazing" turned out to be abandon or piles of crap that lied about a lot and had misleading screenshots.  :P  This one has a 46% positive rating so, could be bad.
space colony - I now want to look into this based on seeing it here for the first time.  :P
dwarfcorp - Looks interesting, almost like what Towns and Gnomoria should have been.
castle story - This also looks really interesting, I've had it on my wishlist for a while.

I left out the others that I didn't find interesting, but linked all these to show you guys how to link things when you talk about them.  :P
Click to see my steam. I'm a lazy modder who takes long breaks and everyone seems to hate.

Banished isn't abandoned, it's done. Though the dev is currently working on porting it to Linux.

Banished :)

Not enough depth and it really pales in comparison to Rimworld (modded).

Abandoned??? Rimwold must be too, since it's not been updated in over a week :D

One day people will bother to read it's forums and see that it's releasing updates as beta patches, hence why no big update has been out for while. This is why Rimworld isn't ready for steam, even with the beta opt-in options people just ignore them and thing it's abandoned

You don't play dwarf fortress like rimworld, you play rimworld like dwarf fortress.

wow so much hate for Gnomoria

the game is awesome guys- dont listen to the negativity !

Joshuasca

Suprised no one mentioned kenshi yet.  Its been in dvelopement for a decade and at this rate will be done sometime in 2022, but it's a pretty cool game that covers a lot more ground than rimworld - cities factions cannibals slavers - all top down 3d rts style, of course you can also build bases, craft, mine, and imprison npcs.  Actually next to DF i consider it the closest to RW - especially when you look at content and setting.  Kenshi has a long way to go, but I have been playing for over a year and i would really be suprised if it ever got abandoned.

CharlieC

These days I spend most of my time playing Clockwork Empires. Only 75% done and a lot of the content is not in or optimised but it will be a hell of a game when done. Charming, fun and very good blog posts every week.

Owlchemist

Hope this isn't toooo much of a necropost...found this post through google, just had a few things to chime in on.

Didn't see much love for Banished in the comments above. That game ranks as my 5th most played game on Steam because it has a great modding scene. I was actually part of it myself for awhile. Colonial Charter is the big one, which adds like.....probably 20x more content to the game compared to vanilla, at least.

Cannot play timber and stone since the texture/model changes, lost sooo much of its appeal for me, happy for Robert to take on the help from the forum guys who are now helping him build it but it seems the direction on things like this is changing....sadly itll sit in my bought Alpha and it changed too much pile (its on its own in that pile)

Funny, I feel the opposite ;) I played Timber and Stone for awhile, but when I was checking it out, I was turned off by the *old* graphics that I almost didn't pick it up. The screenshots on the website weren't updated yet.

Add me to the haters! I tried getting into that game multiple times but I couldn't get past the graphics. Look, there's a difference between bad graphics and bad graphics. If you're going to have low-fi graphics, great, that's fine, but whatever they're doing just isn't my jam.

And this is coming from someone who adores Aurora. Which wasn't a game mentioned yet. It's sometimes nicknamed the dwarf fortress of space and it's been around for a longass time too. You can get it here, on their forums. Prepare for a week+ of learning how to play, though, it's a ridiculously complex game ;)

I discovered Aurora a couple of days ago, and it seems amazing. I've been watching Lets Play series almost non stop and I still haven't got a clue about what to do in game. I really REALLY like the in depth character development where hypothetically a young Captain can get promoted all the way to Governor of Earth for example.

MisterVertigo

Ack, I just went to look at Aurora and it appears the site is down. Hopefully it'll be back up soon. I want to check it out!

Topic- I want to see how many games are even like this one......I dont know of many

Gnomeria is my fave right now

I tried Dwarf Fortress- its waaaay too complicated and im not a person that usually gives up trying (i mastered Distant Worlds which is another maze of a game) - but i had to on this one

Rimworld/Gnomeria is working out for me- what about you fellas, any recommendations ?

Oh man try Dwarf Fortress again.  Use this series of tutorial videos:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxAXxDBDw10

After watching those and learning the basics, I have had so much fun.

Jaxxa

I think we can add Planetbase to the list.
Not officially released yet but appears to have some similarities.
