A way to stop roofs from autobuilding?

Hello all,

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but I was a 'colonist' backer, and only got the game recently  :)
Anyways, after a few unsuccessful attempts of trying to create colonies, I finally got one that worked. I made a nice base on the side of a mountain and began to dig in. My solar panels were outside (obviously), however they were situated on an flanked position. So, I decided to build a wall in front of them so that they were protected, I went ahead and built it all the way around, with doors and everything to let colonists in, and then a roof was automatically build, so the solar panels were then useless.

I understand that I basically (actually literally) made a room around the solar panels, but I'm wondering if there was someway to cancel the roof from being built, or at least a way to delete it.

Thanks

At the moment no.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere here that in a future version roofs will be handled differently. I'm assuming that means you'll be able to choose whether or not one gets built, to prevent this kind of problem from occurring in future.

I'll be doing this in a day or two, actually.

Would that solve this problem too?:

Phenom - ha, that's a mapgen bug. Really, it shouldn't make thick roof in tiny patches like that.

It was bigger before, but won't get any smaller than that :D so for now it would be a nice place to skill mining (with high risk for ... "accidents") ;)

Perhaps a wall type that serves the purpose of security, not foundation. A fire resistant harder hall for defense or as a purposes.

A wall that cost more, but adds benefits such as damage resistance, fire resistance. Maybe the wall degrades instead of being destroy as whole instantly, and it can be repaired by simple repair means.

Drawbacks could reduce its cost, and usability, like not being able to run power through it, not being able to repair it (Like a disposable obstacles.) Not being able to use it as cover (Like adding spikes to the walls)

An additional feature.
A wall that you could choose to attach normal wall pieces and from that create a building using it as a slight foundation. ((For space concerns)That is assuming they are somewhat compatible.)

- [ normal wall ]
= [ Security wall ]
+ [ Under roof ]

I would like to see some type of spike effect eventually that i could set up to stop/slow them down from them from using my own defensive walls against me...

No-roof regions have been programmed and are working well for Alpha 2.

for the current time, as long as you don't complete the wall all the way around (doors count as completing the wall) it won't cover.

Really I could use the ability to designate a ceiling removal, when you start digging out sections of cave and start getting the caveins, it dives meh crazy

You'll never be able to remove thick cave roofs; it represents a mountain over your head and you can't carry that away.

I mean in regards to squaring up your entrance, and clearing the roof for better exposure for your solar cells. Not like removing the whole mountain. Technically the edges of the "mountain" shouldn't be so thick that they couldn't be cut off a bit.

Ah yes; the edges are "thin roof (rock)", which can be removed.
