Components too cheap

Every time an Exotic Goods orbital trader shows up I get another 30 components for 500 silver.  I have a stockpile of 150 now, I'm never going to need a component bench.  Component cost needs to be increased.

(Note that I modded trade so that trade ships actually show up.  What's the point of having a price on something if nobody sells it?)
If you give an annoying colonist a parka before banishing him to the ice sheet you'll only get a -3 penalty instead of -5.

And don't forget that the pirates chasing a refugee are often better recruits than the refugee is.

I think that their prices should be raised a bit and their steel production costs lowered so things make a little bit more sense.

PS you can't mod the ships and then complain about prices lol

i found that the number of component needed/able to buy, fitted quite well. until you reach the point where there hardly are anything left needed to be build.
i much more like to see the component bench being a cheaper thing to build. or atleast make them cheaper to manufacture.
but the need of component fall drastically once your at the endgame. then its mostly repairing machines and renewing the destroyed turrets.

but if you have modded the ships so they are more common, i think the point of having "cheap" components are missed since there are a state it the game where they are few and being able to afford those that you find is a must.

but that's my personal experience. :)

I have never seen double digits of components being sold ever.  Like the other comment above's assumption, I must assume that you must be using a mod to make that even possible to have 30 being available.

As for the price, I think they are decently priced.  If anything maybe up to $5 more each, but no more than that.  It may seem cheap because the number available is always low.

Ive seen bulk traders selling up to 50 components at a time. Nothing in terms of trade value was changed but for the frequency of the orbital trader event to trigger.

Components are way too expensive/time consuming to craft on your own, but at the same time they can be extremely inexpensive with traders when you buy in bulk.

A14 should definitely be a balance update, more than anything.

I remember buying 40 something from a trader once.

Yes, the orbital Exotic Goods trader carries gobs of them.  It's just that trade has been nerfed so badly that you never see them without modding.

If components are supposed to be so scarce and so vital, then they should be priced accordingly.  If they cost 100 silver apiece you would still buy them, no?

Better to balance trade by changing prices so that stuff that's supposed to be hard to get is wickedly expensive rather than having it never show up.  What is this, Venezuela?

I have not installed the trade mod (I am running the MAI mods, but they don't affect trade).  I find traders to be too few and far between, exotic goods traders even moreso (I tend to have a lot of clothing built up in between their visits and have to keep expanding my warehouse for storing clothes :/).

Pure vanilla here.  I have frequently seen sales in the teens.  Sometimes higher.  Are too cheap though.  They sell for less than the materials to craft one if I remember.  30 steel costs how much?

Why buy components, if you can get 100 of them from single drop pod event?  :P

Only Exotic Goods Trader sells them at half price. My issue is that they feel like Bulk Goods Trader.

Tynan

Good point, I'll look at the balance on this.

I would consider completely removing components from bulk goods traders and exotic good traders, then greatly reducing the cost of the component assembly bench. With a cost of 30 components, it feels pointless because I need to buy a large quantity of them from a trade ship anyway. That's the only practical way to get the production of components going. The assumption seems to be that the player will get produce 30+ components by the time another exotic trader arrives, and that's far fetched.

In terms of making components, they are definitely not too cheap.  30 metal and takes the better part of a day to make a single component :/

Based on Tynan's video explaining the changes in A13, he said components were something like tubes and various parts. I don't think the price should be raised, considering what is being sold. IMHO if 30 tubes cost 500 silver thats some expensive tubing.
