Incapable of grammatical

To be fair Harry the administrative and moderation staff know you as a fire fueling problem causer so ramping other users up and kicking them in the teeth really isn't your smartest move with me of all people sitting here with popcorn. I said y'all need to tone it down, and I surely wasn't joking.

The only one that needs changed IMO is caring, unless that actually effects something other than doctoring (I don't recall, tbh). More so because it's a misleading / inaccurate term, rather than the grammar.

Other than that I agree with AileTheAlien, they made a fair point. Getting everything 100 % gramatically correct can be a challenge, especially when splicing together multiple entries as Rimworld does. You can make it legible and sound legit however, but I haven't really had too many issues myself with the way strings are presented in Rimworld.
Should I feel bad that nearly half my posts are in the off topic section?

Dargaron

The holy mod has spoken, so I'm not touching the controversial stuff... (Is it sad that I moused over "wasn't joking." to see if it was a link of some sort?)

Gipothegip speaks truth, however. I'd totally be behind changing "caring" to "medicine" or "doctoring" (as amusing as "incapable of caring" was the first time I saw it). Especially since, IIRC, it also prevents crafting medicine, which doesn't really fall under caring (strictly speaking, it doesn't really fall under doctoring either, but that's too hair-splitty for me)

The whole research-medicine-crafting interaction around medicine production is a weird case, so any clarification for newbies might be helpful, especially since 1.0 is around the corner.

I want to make it clear I am 100 percent okay with the topic at hand, by all means you all do your thing we are a very open minded and friendly forum... that being said as the big bad admin I am still here to keep the peace and when things are getting slung around and feelings are being hurt just because people think they should... well that's when I step in to bash skulls! <3

Love all of you though, good bunch even the problem causers.

@harry: it is always fun to read your ironic and hypocritical comments.
let's start at the top:
so you DO admit that i was right and you were wrong? cool. that's exactly where you should've stopped your comment. nothing more needed. and that's me talking, the guy that overtalks all the time.
and then you call me a "schoolyard child". never heard that one before, very original. unfortunately you didnt exactly do a good job at making me look like one and did the most common mistake people do when they try to do so: you just described yourself. dont feel bad, many much older, richer and smarter people than you did and still do the same thing. closet-gay politicians and priests condemning homosexuality for example. what i am saying is you are probably afraid to be called a "schoolyard child" yourself. you "schoolyard child". i hope your dear mods and admins wont stop you from going to the bathroom in your lunch break when you read my comment, or we might have a lil wet surprise waiting.
but these silly things aside, it is really striking how mere sentences after calling me a "schoolyard child" you throw a temper tantrum like you're one of them yourself.
[...]
once you're done having a hissy fit, try to smear your tears on your bib so that you can read on.
[...]
QuoteI mean no offense against you, and I know I can come across as it myself a lot, but I think you are very immature and act very poorly with how you converse with others on here. I also think you are brash, disrespectful, condescending, and you act as if anything you say should be a given, and honestly, I have no desire to converse with you any further. I also think most of your ideas are shit.
i know you know you come off like the things you call other people. it is called projecting. it is really funny seeing people do that and then telling them they're doing it. please go on.
so by now you've called me all these things: dishonest, a "schoolyard kid", very immature, brash, disrespectful and condescending.
now tell me which of these attributes could describe you just aswell? is it perhaps choice a), as in all of the above? you can also tell your mom if you dont wanna tell me personally, though, i am sure she'll understand.
lastly, you do not regard my ideas very highly, which is fair, opinions can differ. but i'm sure you'll learn this soon at your school.

ok, the constructive part:
@gipothegip: good point. but how will we exactly do it? caring seems a bit difficult to see through for me to this day, so i cant really make a good proposition here...
anyway, +1 to you

@everyone: i still dont understand what op meant by "Grammar is its own reward; it pays dividends."
can anyone help me? i tried googling it with no result. is this like an english metaphor combined with a joke or sth?
surely you dont need to rebutcher corpses that you already half butchered if you leave the table to smoke a joint real quick?

Is there a mute feature? I am trying to restrain myself after my second warning and this kid just CAN'T STOP TALKING ABOUT ME. I have a feeling like this won't stop. We both make posts going back and forth. So an admin comes in and says to cool it down. And then this guy just keeps on poking me. I will admit to doing some poking myself, but when he keeps posting these huge walls and mentioning me after being told to get along, can I not respond? I already told him goodbye once, yet still, he persists.

That's it, I stopped reading right there. I can't even believe I was surprised at some of the things you said before. It is completely obvious to me now that you have some serious issues with reading comprehension and TWISTING people's words, even after giving you the benefit of doubt. I never fucking admitted you were right and I was wrong, so where the hell did you get that? If you cannot understand basic English then don't act like an authority on it, as I already said you like to think you are. You want to insult people on here like they are children, but that's exactly what you are. Just because mommy told you to tell people, "you sound like you are projecting" you sound ridiculous. You may think that by just throwing that phrase out there, that it will negate any criticisms other's may have about you, but you're wrong. Maybe I'M the big fucking idiot here for even expecting any modicum of intelligence from you.

It isn't a smart move because I am not a smart man. You have too much faith in me :P Thank you for your patience, I know I can have some serious IRL anger issues. However, I won't be back in this thread, so you won't have anymore issues from me. Sometimes I just need an hour or two to cool down, but that isn't an excuse for making it any of administrator's problem. But, but... you guys, know about me? *blushes uncontrollably* ::)

I suggested existing strings be replaced with other strings. No programming involved.
(...)
simply choose good singular terms; perhaps those which I have suggested.

This was partly answered by gipothegip, but I can elaborate on why fixing this would probably be more work than you might think. First, you're probably correct that these particular instances of these particular skills and phrases are just strings. However, as others have pointed out, the game generates many different strings, sentences, and paragraphs, from templates with some words substituted into them. Do all of those templates need to use several different forms of every substitution, for a word as a noun, adjective, etc? If they already have that ability then (and this is a best-case scenario in my opinion), all the instances of grammatical incorrectness just need to be hunted down and fixed. If the game doesn't support different variations of the same word, then that would need to be programmed into the game. Now, even if that effort were afforded, that begs the question - what about the rest of the game? Will this level of polish in the words shown to the player impact the expected level of polish for the rest of the game? Should the graphics and art assets be improved from their current low-fidelity state? Does the AI need to be improved to match?

These aren't easy questions to answer, but I know that all of them represent an increased amount of effort. As Dargaron points out, this type of string-substitution can be made easy, but they were also citing Paradox, which is a larger studio with a larger budget. Also noteworthy, is that Paradox has been using the same game engine for 10 games over 10 years, which makes this type of polish easier to attain (although Dargaron was citing an earlier game with a different engine, unless they made a typo). Rimworld might indeed get this grammar polished up, but I recommend having realistic expectations.

Ahh. I have a few issues with a few ways information is presented here and there, but I don't expect a fully fleshed out sentence everywhere and propriety to the max. I have simply started this subject with an egregious example of grammar getting into a fight with word choice.

I understand how the terms might be linked, and in such a case, the paste button might be needed a few times. lol I don't think it's expensive to rename a few existing strings, and no one here could convince me of that. If you did this as a mod, it would barely qualify as one because it would be so skimpy. So I think you are overthinking it.

I never implied any programming was involved.

You most certainly did. And it's not naiiveté, it is my playful way of mentioning how easy this fix is (which no one seems to believe...) If you can't take a joke...

Don't twist people's words. The OP was obviously being snarky and using the game's improper grammar to make a point. You are further making yourself look like an ass by trying to throw people under the bus for something they did not say nor mean.

I appreciate that. I...probably won't reply to him. I feel like I dodged a bullet.
A muffalo encountered a vimp near a patch of sweet vegetables. A struggle ensued. The muffalo gored the vimp with its horns. The vimp bit the muffalo with its beak. Finally, the vimp was bested, sending large chunks of its flesh in every direction. But the muffalo was injured. It shed a single tear.

Show me through a quotation the exact phrase where I even "imply" that programming is required, please.

Of course. I'm not a fan of people being misrepresented, no matter what phrase is used for this attempted distortion of their words, even if I disagree with you.
