Idea is to add cloning pod into game. And resource to be able to clone your colonist be biomass what can be gathered from corpses.

Nice idea.

Altough i don't know if this will fit the setting. You are a group of stranded colonists. And one should wonder can we even research this.
Where will the biomass come from. i think that researching/creating a technology takes longer than tynan plans to let the avarage game play out on your rimworld.

Here's one suggestion....Make "clones" of people purchasable by rare (and inherently late-game) vessels in space. Purchase a clone pod of someone for say, 5k money or some large amount, so it can be used as a reserve backup for VIP colonists, or keeping the original 3 alive. However, this way its much more economic to get slaves instead of cloning if you  just want basic manpower.

If this idea was  used, perhaps also allow digging up graves for DNA samples...And maybe a small, SMALL chance of a genetic mutation in the cloning process.
Why to people worry about following their heart? Its lodged in your chest, you won't accidentally leave it behind.

Its bad because reasons, and if you don't know the reasons, you are horrible. You cannot ask what the reasons are or else you doubt it. But the reasons are irrefutable. Logic.

id love some research goals like this, could even have nasty side effects like psychosis for clones, or higher rate of betrayal, or bad reputation so traders begin to get scared of your army of super men. Or even other things.. yeah this could be amazing stuff... Id like to even see rare mutations or maybe even if he ever adds say an AI unit maybe they interfere with the clones and give them hidden objectives to sabotage your colony because he went rogue. Then youd have a mad clone vs original settlers/humans thing going down.

Hello from the future, 2k17. Cloning is a great idea! Come here to say that, but found this topic. I'll just add that cloning should be pretty long process to help in keeping balance. And about nasty side effects: it could be cannibalism or some other mental illnesses (maybe even need to kill somebody, or like bloodhunger).
Chance of all this bad things can be ruduced by level of Scientist who create a clone.

Shub-Niggurath

To balance this, it would have to provide either a heavy cost for every clone, or at least a mood debuff. For example
"Colony cloned someone" -10
- "The Colony is cloning people, they're treating us like we're disposable resources..."
"Saw my own Clone" -8
- "I saw myself, only it was someone else. Makes me uncomfortable to know theres an exact replica of me ready to replace me."

I like the Idea, especially to replace colonists .. or parts of colonists if you want to go really dark ..

Cloning or more detailed Vat Grown Soldiers and others are allready in the Background Stories. So the tech is out there ..

And the argument about buildability is moot .. if you got your crazy science camp running you can build all kind of stuff .. the main problem are the resources, not the manpower .. all this stuff we have were made by single facilities not much larger than our colonies .. they were just supported and sponsored by our society.
The colony supports itself .. it should be a matter of cost .. nothing else.

Also making a clone should take time .. lots of time and effort ..
1-2 years with daily or more supervision of a researcher or dr. with a min skill ..
so if that guy dies .. so does your clone ..

And it would be great if there were other high-tech gizmos hidden on the rimworld .. machines that are really beyond the scope of a colony in size and scope ..

Cloning and Vat-Grown Soldiers
These are essentially another source of colonists, beyond the random generated faction members that arrive on an almost daily basis for your consideration as recruits. The advantage is better traits and skills than what is on offer from the bell curve of the RNG choosing people from the installed mods and vanilla set. It's breeding on purpose.

Cost
What is the cost of a colonist? How much is a skill point worth? There is a point system in use by Edb's Prepare Carefully mod that gives an accounting of everything the player may purchase.
My 5-point rating system: Yay, Kay, Meh, Erm, Bleh

Insect jelly for the biomass?

Also I really love the idea of colonists being freaked out by seeing themselves, and the idea of horrible things going wrong with the cloning process. Results like "The fly" or some congealed mass that tries to kill your colonists. That would be amazing.

Biomass as a ressource Is BS, people.

We are cloning something .. growing from scratch, not fleshmoulding.

What is needed for cloning should be a zygote extractet from a donor,
some dna from the original .. and time.

The Machine should use nutrients  , a yet to name product to enhance growth and prevent failures ..
The nutrients should be a special food item produced to be put in a hopper next to the cloning tank, the enhancer has to be monitored and administered by a scientist or doctor ..
-> food failure : brain damage,
-> medic failure : body damage

What you get is not a exact, but a younger copy of the Donor.
Which should be even more weird :)
