Why did you back Rimworld?

I usually surf Kickstarter daily and I saw this game pop up. I've been keeping track of it since. I like that it has that Firefly vibe, and that it's a simulation.

StarDruid

Because it's looks like Towns or Black And White 2 (minus the whole God thing) with gun. Oh and the whole Dune thing.

Teaf

I liked the look of the game and the future development plans, and was convinced enough from the videos that the game will be completed.

I actually played a similar (in concept) game a few friends of mine and I developed way back in middle school. Granted it was on graph paper, and was more exploration oriented than supply oriented, but watching LPs on YouTube reminded me too much of that old game, so I figured I had to try RimWorld.

That and I'm always happy to back people with much more artistic talent than I.

Curious, what appealed to you to back the game?

To be honest, I have never played a game like this before. I saw someone on youtube who was spreading the word about it and watched them play it for some time. I've never had an opportunity to support a game either, backing is an entirely new concept to me.

I sincerely believe my 30$ backing was well worth it. I look forward to learning this game for what it is and seeing first hang a new type of game I have never tried before. We will see how things go! I look forward to learning it.

I know it's not a question for this topic but anyone got an ETA idea on the 30$ backer's codes being issued? I figured we would have access to the pre-alpha today! :D
Thanks for the question Christian!

It's been mentioned in several threads that KS won't give out the list of backers for a couple weeks. I believe the consensus is mid-November at the earliest.  ;)

Appreciate it. New to the website too, so I'm still hunting around for the facts XD

The sci-fi/western (Firefly) theme really caught my interest and the polish in the demo software sold me. It effectively demonstrates the type of game Rimworld will become and more importantly seems to be a fun game already, very impressive this early in development. I look forward to following Rimworld's development and to playing it as more features/polish are added and the gameplay is balanced.

Selling point for me was the lists of features and the AI driven story, where this is very unmuch like prison architect (which I've been playing just because of the similar sprites which I adore), you make your own goals and everything adapts, instead the AI has a goal and you adapt; the goal being the AI makes your colonists lives difficult on all levels.

I stumbled upon it while searching for Unity 3D powered games.
Fell in love with the concept.
However it was Tynans book on Game Design that convinced me the most.
It got me hooked and I learned a lot from it, even though it's just a hobby for me.
(But who knows there might appear a kickstarter one day inspired by Rimworld & Tynan :) )

I backed Rimworld because I saw Scott Manley do a video promoting it, and I really liked the fact that it acknowledges and builds upon the ideas of Dwarf Fortress. The dynamic story generation of Dwarf Fortress, as seen through things like Boatmurdered, are what made me love Dwarf Fortress, so I couldn't resist the idea of helping along something that emphasizes DF's best elements. I think what really sold me was when I saw one of the colonists rescue another colonist in the midst of a firefight. That was a great moment, and when I read Tynan's "The Simulation Dream," I understood why and gained a great deal of confidence in what he's doing with RimWorld.

Saw Scott Manley's video showing off RimWorld.

I wondered, where can I get this neat-o looking game? I visited TPB, downloaded the 232 version, played it until 5 am, threw $40 at the Kickstarter the next day. I love this game.

Another one converted by Scott Manley....

I pledged because I feel this might be able to stop my Kerbal Space Program addiction!

Something something sci fi.  Something something Dune.  Something something Firefly.

This ---^

And also because it's an amassing game, and it will keep me entertained for months to come.
