Auto-equip Weapons and Armor

I'm assuming since this game is in alpha that they are looking for suggestions and criticism so I have an idea. How about some sort of auto-equip AI? I find it a little weird that I have clothes sitting in my stoke pile and yet I have a person running around upset because he does not have any clothes on. Or I've got a guy running around with a wooden shiv when there is a minigun right by his feet. I mean if the item is marked as forbidden then I understand but automatically putting on the best clothing/armor and equipping the best weapon you can find kinds seems like a no brainer like eating and sleeping. And if you think it will mess up the feel of the game then just put it as an option that can be turned on or off in the menus or something. Anyway, just some suggestions. Loving the game btw. Keep it up.

Auto-equipping weapons is a little tricky, because there's some tactics based on how some weapons works and which pawns you want them with, specially if you're using a weapons mod.

I guess if your pawn has no weapon whatsoever then it could be auto-equipped, same with clothes. But it's so easy to just click the weapon/clothe you want, and it should happen so rarely, that makes you wonder if it's worth to build such a system for something that's easy to do (right click and equip).

Similarly, I've often found myself suggesting upon this thread a save "loadout" feature, where one could have how you want your pawn to be equipped (think: sniper loadout, farming loadout, etc) and through a single click make the little guy automatically drop the old equip and pick it up the new. But since i've got zero to none feedback yet, I guess it's not a popular suggestion. Perhaps because the game punishes very little for having your guys running, working and sleeping around in power armor and mini guns.

I suppose that make since. Plus the EdB Interface mob makes it pretty easy to see what your guys are wearing and whats available to put on.

Clothing and weapons will have durability in the next release, and will be  damaged by violence. I also get the impression that wearing a parka all the time isn't going to be so good. So the player is going to have to spend a lot more time dressing and equipping his pawns without some new mechanics.

It makes sense to me that this would be controlled by the stockpile settings.  Or maybe you just forbid the stuff you don't want your pawns grabbing.

It's true there are some situations where it is not clear weather the switch is an improvement-- do you always want your pawns to drop a pistol for an Emp grenade? The pawns should not make those kind of choices.  But upgrading a shoddy stone sword for a good plasteel sword or switching a damaged cloth cowboy hat for a undamaged hyperweave hat, grabbing pants if they are naked. or even putting on a parka if it is cold.--- these are no brainer decisions.  The pawns should do this on their own.

I've noticed that in prisoners they'll autoequip any apparel in the room, if they have the slot open. makes for some annoyance when you're trying to strip them and their naked buddies steal their clothes. But it doesn't seem to happen when colonists are on autopilot.

Oh god no, I would never want a colonist to automatically pick up anything they want willy-nilly.

The ability to assign equipment to colonists and then allow them to automatically switch between equipment that is assigned to them would probably be a better alternative. Also, perhaps a way to set specific "loadouts" for colonists, or at least define gear that is to be used while drafted (which they will automatically pick up when drafted, and return again when undrafted).

Oh that was a good laugh, Lord Fappington's Mod doesn't quite have Sado-masochism yet...
or the ability to have forced sexual relations, so the prisoners are safe from that atleast.

I'm not quite going that far yet, only stripping them of all their clothes so that I can get at their kidneys more easily, inconvenient packaging and whatnot.

The weapons i dont agree unless he doesnt have anyweapon equiped yet.

About clothes i agree that they should wear warm clothes during winter and unwear them in summer.
