Cave VS Outside Bases?

I almost always make a cave base. Lately I have been trying a combination of the two as early game can be annoying with no good miner.

The big advande of a cave base are, you are protected from siege weapons when you are under thick roof, but inside a cave base hive infestions can appear.
But sieges don't scare me much, mosttimes before they even build the mortars i could decimate them with sniper gun's.
Since i like to play on extreme biomes (ice or desert) i have indoor farming anyway, so it doesn't matter much.
With total random starting pawns, i would say whatever you got better, a good miner (cave base) or a good constructor (outside).
