I ran across this video about a year ago before I started playing Rimworld.  Revisited the video after playing Alpha16 for the first time, just to refresh my memory.

I haven't tried making it at home yet, though I plan on doing so in the near future (I love cooking new and unusual things).

Just thought I'd drop this here ... it's an interesting food in history.

The video above is just the first in a short series on Pemmican, and is great watch.

Before your ruin your own kitchen (skill 1), maybe you should buy some at first.
Then you got a taste how it could taste if someone else made it (skill 10+).

We don't want you to die at food poisoning ! :-)

Wired2thenet,

Thanks for posting this its a great clip and a cool insight into what is going on in game. I'm from Australia so I had literally no idea what pemmican is. Now I know.

Thank you.  :) :) :)
Mods I would recommend:
Mending, Fertile Fields, Smokeleaf Industries and the Giddy Up series.

The Mod you must have:

Probably not.  While occasionally people enjoy it, most liken it to eating a warm candle.  I've had homemade pemmican that was...tolerable, I guess (urp :o) and it's even better for compact hiking/backpacking food than jerky, but commercial pemmican is utterly vile.  Commercially-available pemmican is much worse than homemade, because they are forced by regulations to cook the meat.  Pemmican is supposed to be made from dried, RAW meat and does not benefit from this change at all, nor does using cooked meat extend its life.
Thanks, belgord!

That's not entirely true. Depending on how you make it it can be mostly like jerky in taste.

Depending on what meat it was made with and how it was prepared it can vary wildly in taste.
At the very least keeping 20lbs or so in the basement isn't a terrible idea for civil emergency situations. Regardless of if you get good tasting or candle wax you cant argue with the life sustaining nature of pemmican.

Never made pemmican but I used to make a dried jerky by drying a salted and peppered beef in a fruit drier. Delicious! I also experimented with some spices and marinades but ended up using just the salt and pepper (garlic was probably the best from the experiments). Beef is probably the best meat for drying although I tasted some pork one somebody made and it was ok. I should try the full pemmican recipe sometime, it looks good!

Looks like the in-game pemmican needs a new graphic then. :D
