Doctoring needs to be prioritiesed over leasure...

I'm new to the game but I've noticed that when ever I have injured people that my doctor needs to tend to, she'll often just wander off and do something like visit Nick No-Fuck's grave (I should write a story about this guy...) or sit at the table and kick her feet up. It's just a little annoying that I have to micro-manage her to stop her from doing that when somebody could be dying. I don't want to force her into working all the time using the fixed schedule menu, but I might have to just to stop her from neglecting her doctoring duties.

Maybe I'm just nit-picking, I don't know. But I just think it's a bit weird when my doctor goes off to to play horse-shoes when another colonist is bleeding all over the rec-room floor.

In all seriousness, if you want to be able to do this right, you kind of HAVE to use the manual priority work scheduler.

Automatic labor assignment is easy, sure, but it sure isn't efficient, or smart.

Doctors will only do this repeatedly if they are overworked. The solution to most issues of this kind is to assign more pawns to the task. Doctoring is kind of a special case because it's a critical task that can take a relatively long time to complete depending on the type of injuries. Ideally, you'll want one doctor per patient. Of course, this is almost never going to happen but even early on, having only a single doctor can lead to mood issues, which translates to tasks being completed more slowly.

One of the most efficient ways to deal with this specific problem is to have a doctor with a burning passion for medicine (two flames). They gain joy when they perform a medicine job, making them better at staying on task than other pawns.

Which makes catastrophic failure kind of hilarious if you picture it.  The doctor is whistling along, cutting this, suturing that - "Oops?  How'd I cut that off?? ...  Oh well, it's the journey that counts! :3"

Even if they are fully joyful they priority other things higher than doctoring (i.e sleep).

I made little mod that make giving treatment emergency job. https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=20708.msg227526#msg227526 Emergency treatment mod.
