How to remove the requirement for hunters to have ranged weapons to hunt

As the tile says, can someone help me plz.
Playing with CR so ammo is precious.

Micromanage hunting by having brawlers beat animals to death or use the smarter food selection MOD and haul the corpses of what your conivor pets kill for themselves. Currently I'm using bears trained to haul.  Every so often a bear will bring its kill right to the freezer after he eats his fill.

Note that a) you will still get the Hunter lacks ranged weapon alert, and b) you need to set your hunter to do something other than flee when they are threatened.

Is this in vanilla already or do I still need the "smart bears" mod? (if it exists at all for A16)

Smarter food selection just makes cornivous pets go hunt instead of raiding your stock pile.
I just train up the pets.  Any animal that can haul and hunt can do it.  Wargs,  Dogs,  ect.

Also,  I probably Dev mode trained the bears.  I miss the robots mod way to much.

Ahh yes, that mod...
The main reason for me not to use it ever since it appeared is Vegetable Garden :P VG is too valuable to me to be easily replaced by Smarter Food Selection

You know, giving it a second thought I might try and see what happens...
The description says:
"The mod may not be compatible with anything that adds new food like vegetable garden"

There may be a chance they will work just fine xD

I use it with the gourmet mod that adds lettuce, carrots, and tomatoes.  It throws a yellow error about can't find raw food preferably but nothing game breaking.

I remember why I never used that mod :P
It's because of the known incompatibility with "Hospitality"... Recruited prisoners keep eating the worse food as if they were still prisoners... Dunno if it has been fixed or not but it's in the mod's description

Haven't noticed it,  I'll have a look this afternoon.  I had just recruited a prisoner,  I'll see tool her hunger and see what she grabs.

Locked her in a room with a potato,  paste meal,  lavish meal,  and a mod soup.  She ate the soup first +8 mood buff,  then the lavish meal.  So as far as the mod causing a bug with recruited prisoners,  I'd say it was fixed.

You did the test with "Hospitality" on, right? Just confirming  ::)
