Neolithic Weapons? Neolithic Armor.

If you've played RimWorld for long enough to have seen/used the Neolithic melee weapons, such as the Long sword or the Gladius, you might know these are essential parts to the melee battles in RimWorld. But what would be even better would be an armor type meant to block melee attacks.

I'm suggesting we add: Neolithic Armor.
Neolithic Armor would include: Chain mail (Pants, Shirt, Helmet)
Plate mail (Pants, Shirt, Helmet)
Etc.

Essentially this is armor made to directly protect from melee attacks. You could equip melee or ranged fighters and make them a lot more melee proof with these sets of armor.

Chain/Plate armor in stone age? M'kay...

Xevion

That is Medieval armor, not Neolithic.
We already have "Neolithic Armor".
Tribalwear.
They didn't really have "Armor" back then, or maybe they considered Armor to be Tribalwear, and
"Naked" to be normal.

So an arming sword or a gladius is "neolithic"?

The "tribals" in this game are all fucked. Neolithic peoples used stone, yet the tribals have steel weapons. Therefore ..... they aren't neolithic.

Never had tribals with swords, considering this is not medworld but rimworld with different communites and technologies it would not be still BS to see them with that, they can always raid pirates or outlanders.

But plate armor which is useless for fighting such place? Someone would need contact with exotic good trader and buy it then lose it during raid/be mad and use it or such ship to crash.

Though some BS is here because you can use console to contact tribals, lol.

They actually did. Neolithic peoples had cloth, from wool and linen, and knew how to make pants, shirts, jackets, etc, not "tribalwear".

Padded cloth in and of itself is really effective armor, to the point where modern bulletproof vests are little more than tightly-woven multiple layers of cloth.

This is my problem with the representation of "tribals" in Rimworld. Just because a society is tribal doesn't mean it has to be primitive.

People hunted animals instead of domesticating them because they were on the move once there was no more game to hunt, so they would not have much of wool. You most likely mean bronze age. During stone age people people simply weared animal skins to protect from cold.

You do realize neolithic peoples had agriculture and animal husbandry, right? The "Neolithic" is when humans developed agriculture.

Well, you can technically make leather armor already. The leather types could use more variation, but still...
As for chainmail, i guess we could have a "chainmail cloth" (would use steel, some cloth for padding, and be very work intensive to make) textile with appropriate stats as an easy solution for that.
Guess that's an idea for a little mod.

Then you could have chainmail dusters as pretty much a hauberk, chainmail tuques for coifs, shirts\pants for light chainmail, add jacket for heavier, and so on.

A chainmail cowboy hat, parka or button down shirt would be really weird though.

Indians had wodden armor.
That's neolitic.

Also nobody really made leather armor so much. Cows are too expensive and useful. From what I've read they used leather almost solely for.. soles :)
In fact, proper shoes/boots are probably the single most useful and necessary thing to someone stuck on a rimworld, or anywhere :) So maybe add those.
But yeah chainmail etc would not be very metal-expensive compared to actual plate, and would be almost as good against anything other than bullets, arrows, melting hot shrapnel, lance shots, thin daggers or clubs and maces.
Hm. Perhaps not that useful but still something! I guess in rimworld context it would have more value as art than as practical protection
