Hi all, I know some are brawlers, some are shooters, but they all should be capable of carrying a small knife in addition to the gun so that when your esteemed colonist shoots a bear in the eye while hunting a rabbit he can at least poke the bear with something sharp while trapped down a one way corridor having his limbs ripped off...

Just a thought.  ;)

SpaceDorf

While this is true, and should be in the Game :)

Use shotguns for hunting, great for blasting of faces in melee range.
Just give the shooting order manually.
Maxim 1   : Pillage, then burn
Maxim 37 : There is no overkill. There is only open fire and reload.
Rule 34 of Rimworld :There is a mod for that.

I think thats part of Combat realism (CR) mod, at last HCSK mod got this.
Every pawn got a backpack he need to carry his ammo for the weapon but can carry a 2. weapon or more too if he got the strengh or equipment.

I feel at least the colonist should utilize their ranged weapon as a melee instead of their fist.  This could open up combat options such as using a bayonet on a rifle, swinging that shotgun like a club, or pistol whipping the enemy.

Britnoth

This gets suggested literally every month or so.

I will give the same answer I always give.

No. Please No.

Allowing everyone with a gun to swap to a decent melee weapon just makes melee combat even weaker than it is already, now that punching a guy does not stop him shooting his rocket launcher at point blank killing everyone around them.

Also, maybe use the search function in future.

dub's tool mod allows you to take a tool( trowel, pickaxe, drill, hammer) along with equipping a weapon. But you still need to drop your currently equipped weapon/tool to then re equip it and vice versa. So it should be possible for this to be done
