Colonists automatically personalizing their rooms?

Hey guys, new forum member but been playing for a while.

I had a suggestion for letting colonists customize their rooms or living space somehow.

See, being someone that travels a lot, being able to customize your living space means something to you. Its your own little slice of home, if you will; being that they crash landed in an (almost certainly) new world, it would mean something to have their little slice of the area.

That being said, I had the idea that colonists somehow be able to customize their living spaces. You could have a buff for sleeping or spending time in your own room, and a debuff if you cant. Pictures, posters, items, what have you. Obviously, the game uses a top down camera feature, so perhaps posters or pictures aren't the best ideas. I'm just thinking of some kind of personalization, be it items, rugs, maybe a picture on a dresser, whatever. It would make for a reason to designate beds as well, to really give the colonist a reason to want to stay in their own space. Hell, over time it could even be passed on to barracks, they customize their little corner of the world.

Granted, this would be more important to those of us who role play a bit. Put yourself in the inhabitants shoes; you just crash landed, got a community built, but no real way to claim your little slice of the pie.

Im curious as to what the community or dev's think?

I would love that. At least you are dealing with your colonist a long time... They all got their personality and history. So that should be represented in kind a way with their rooms.
It could refer to their own history, their attributes, if they are from a desert or from the jungle, a tribe, space or former pirates. As well if they are addicted to drugs, had a lover, or a pet or a marriage. Also in there time in the colony they get memorys which could or should be represented (also as they should/could gain attributes over time :D) There could be personal plantpots, where they choose the plant inside. A globe for an Traveler or a bong for a joint smoker... :) Of course there shouldn't be to much of detailed stuff, but at least 1-2 items/objects per colonist, which they would take with them if you change their room or if they have to leave the map with a carawan.
It would really look more indivdual as rimworld is, and not that sterile all the same bedroomstyle as it is right now.

Why not some desks in bedrooms to store items.

For example, when they sleep, they can store their weapon.
In the start of the game, their weapon is one of their more distinctive trait.

Pictures, posters and others items are great but they will need to be crafted.
In Rimworld, nothing come from nowhere :)
I will never do worse than what I do now.
It's what self-improvement means.

I'd love to  see something like this implemented so the colonists would get even more personality and uniqueness!

If someone brought, say, a rugged teddy bear from his/her distant home world, that'd be an 'aawww-moment' for me and I'd try even harder to not get him/her killed.

I'd generally like to have more different absolutely useless furniture just for the sake of decoration and making the rooms more unique.

Tynan generally doesnt like doing anything unless it adds to the gameplay.  Something like this would be considered 'polish' and wouldnt really be looked at until thats all thats left.

That being said, I agree and am incorporating this kind of stuff in my own game Im working on.

If you think of it, going to to a rimworld to another means dozens or hundreds atleast of light years, meaning that everyone they ever knew and loved is dead once they arrive. Maybe because of that they have certain objects that fill the void?
