Enough With the Flashstorms!

I've had flashstorm after flashstorm after flashstorm! No other events, just flashstorms! My jungle looks like the surface of the moon with how often forest fires keep happening!

That wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for these firestorms constantly damaging my wiring to my thermal generators, making the power go out in my base constantly cuz apparently colonists just leave them out in the open without burying them in the ground (there is a mod idea, btw. Buried conduits that take more work but are immune to damage).

Whats worse is that even the generators themselves catch fire. I hate how weak material is in this game in general (how is it that tribals are able to dig through my concrete walls with wooden spears?) but the flammability of metal is the most enraging thing to me. I can understand temperatures getting high enough that metal starts to warp, but in Rimworld metal buildings actually catch fire and spread as if it were made of wood. I hope Sensible Stone and Steel gets updated soon...

Anyways, why is Randy throwing so many flashstorms at me and nearly no raids or tornadoes or such? Is it a wealth issue?

BlackHunter

If u play with Randy be ready to see something like dat, its his purpose. Btw, as I know, tornado event was removed at B19. Raids well come soon anyway, just wait a bit more, accordng Rimworld wiki max Randy's interval between threats is 13 days.

I don't think there is need of a mod, but a small adjustment by Ludeon Studios. I personally first lay the power line blueprints and then build stone floors afterwards. Of course, this doesn't solve the problem, but game mechanically speaking, if somebody does the same thing in reverse, the punishment should be deserved. So, I can agree to the point that a fix is in need.

So far the only thing you can do in a somehow reasonable manner is to make sure the stone flooring you add on the power lines are at least 3 tiles wide if not more. So if the power line is in the middle of the 3, it is still likely to get fire, but the tiles to each side shall delay some time for you to rush in before it burns completely. If each side is 3 tiles wide, meaning a total of 7 with the power line in the middle, then the only way it will get fire is by direct hit but not fire spree by air.

So far, I never built walls on top of a power line that extended outside my city walls to reach a geyser far away, but that's an idea to test, so long as you don't mind a non-sensical wall, but then the map already generates with random ancient walls all around.

In my experience, I never faced such a problem, but you could keep some extra batteries fully charged but disconnected from your grid, so that when disaster "strikes", you just place them within your circuits in the meantime you are rushing to repair damages outside and back. Same old strategy as Deep Drilling afar your colony and without power lines, but battery charged Deep Drills. I know there's people who even caravan with fully charged batteries.

+1 for power lines buried under stone floors.

I've accepted metal structures being flammable. Nope on flammable conduits tho.
Always needing a stone wall to protect conduits from burning is just silly so modded that out.

Do raiders still set conduits on fire? This was the tipping point for me since stone floors won't provide protection there.  Used to lay down poppers on the line to prevent spreading but it's not a great solution.

You actually need a wall on either side to protect conduits from raiders. Makes distant geothermal unattractive.

Stone walls, Stone walls are in-burnable or i meant inflammable... I put stone walls over the conduits if the Geothermal generator is far away & i don't want the fire to burn down the wires.

Also what is the temperature & rainfall of your biome that you're in, Does it rain often or not? It seems like Randy Random is trying Cosplay as Zeus with his Lighting Powers, he's really random. :P

One "happy family" in the rims...
