Hi,
(Mac user)
I somehow managed to un-click the "Core" button in "Mods" in the first screen when you get the game up and running. When i delete the game and reinstall it i just get a black screen. I have tried everything to get the game to work again without success. How can I fix it? Please help me... I'm a noob.

Thank you in advance.

I've started not being able to launch the game today. RW785. Game was running just fine yesterday, had a good colony going, nothing had changed update-wise before the error. Subsequently I have updated my video driver but I believe it was pointless, I had updated recently with GTAV and the driver was dated earlier than that.

I've also tried reinstalling Rimworld from the most recent version (rimworldalpha10fwin) with no success.

When I try to launch I receive a popup that says, "The game crashed. The crash report folder named "XXX" next to the game executable. It would be great if you'd send it to the developer of the game!"

I've attached the four files from the report folder.

Thanks for all your hard work and attention Tynan! I'll look more through this thread and see if I can find any clues, I've already tried the steps you outlined in the first post.

UPDATE: I redownloaded the .rar file and reinstalled it in a clean directory, and it still doesn't work. Oddly, it gives me the same error but does not create the directory and output files as described in this new install.

The log says, "UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "C:\RimWorld\Mods\Core\Defs\ThingDefs\Buildings_Security.xml" is denied."

So yeah, run the game as administrator or install it in a folder that you're allowed to access.

Not sure. This is a general computer use issue, you'll just want to Google solutions to that.

You could also just delete the install and reinstall from your zip file.

Windows 7 64bit and RimWorld834Win.

I get a black screen when starting the executable on a fresh game install. When I download a new Alpha, I always install in a fresh directory, so there are no remains of old versions (other than possibly in the registry).

RimWorld783Win displays the main menu after starting, RimWorld834Win just shows the black screen.

The task manager shows RimWorld834Win.EXE using no processor time and 37 MB of memory, the memory consumption rising slowly but steadily.

The size of the program directory of both versions is about the same (783: 106 MB, 834: 108 MB), so it does not look like an obviously corrupted installation.

I have not installed any mods or otherwise changed the program or data I downloaded from the distribution site.

RimWorld834Win does not get far enough to create the
C:/Users/[username]/AppData/LocalLow/Ludeon Studios
folder. I deleted that folder (after checking that RimWorld783Win started fine) and saw that RimWorld834Win did not create it.

Any idea what I could do, other than wait for the next Alpha? Is there maybe an installation verifyer that spits out the file names with an incorrect checksum or some such?

Thanks a lot for the support - and... awesome game, I love it!

This is the output_log.txt - lots of missing script errors, I will attach the dxdiag.txt (sorry, it is in German, as MS in their infinite wisdom decided to translate system parameters :D ):

Merusalem - "The referenced script on this Behaviour is missing!" indicates something seriously wrong with the game files.

My best suggestion is to try reinstalling.

I don't have a checksum atm, but these should be the exact properties of build 834 right after unzipping:

I can't get my game to work!  I've tried downloading several times, but it's always the same every time... nothing.  I'm down to two downloads remaining and I haven't even got to opening screen yet!  I'm afraid to delete anymore games.  I have several  files that have red circles with exclamation marks in them, but I thought that just meant they weren't backed up.  I don't know, I just know that every time I try to start the game it acts like it's loading for a few seconds then nothing.
The output log seems lacking to say the least, but not sure what I can do or what I'm doing wrong.
I found a more detailed error report, but still can't get game to work... at all.

Sketteck - From the log, it looks like Unity is crashing while trying to set up graphics.

What graphics card do you have? Can you install/update your drivers and try again?
Tynan Sylvester - @TynanSylvester - Tynan's Blog

I use an ATI Radeon HD 5570 on this machine.  It was up to date on the drivers.  I tried to run program again and it crashed again.  So annoying.  Are you sure I was given a cleared copy of the game?  The error.log said "RimWorld857win.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)".  That makes me think that it didn't get my payment, but I can send you verification if you would like.
I may try on another computer, but haven't had issues with games not working on this computer before so would like to resolve it on this one, if I can.

Tynan

Well here's the stack trace. It runs from bottom to top. You can see that RimWorld is calling D3DCreate9, so it's initializing D3D. Then it calls into the ATI driver files, where it's doing a bunch of OpenAdapter stuff (again, trying to initialize graphics). And it crashes somewhere deep in the drivers at a memory free on MmdDxxCreateDevice.

I've reset your downloads if you want to try a different unzip program or something, but this really really looks like some issue in the drivers.
