I am in a mountainous map with little space. The mechanoids spawned from 2 different location in 2 groups. Those centipedes is just everywhere and they will corner my snipers eventually. I could not make snipers kiting works for this fight.

The biome has 3 season of snow so I only get to trade for component in summer (each emp cost 1 component). So while I have some emp rounds it is hard for me to just spam them.

Also I only have 6 prawns. This make the mortars strat hard to pull off.

All in all I find it really hard to deal with the mechanoid in this extreme randy run. In warmer biome I can just spam boars and emp to take care of the mechanoids. Here I can hardy grow enough hay for my pack animal. Even maintaining a once per year trading caravan trip to haul in supply (steel, component and etc) has been challenging.

Randy has just send me 33 cendipedes, in two waves within the same day. I guess this is just unbeatable.

I try to keep my prawn count low to avoid bigger raid. Currently sitting on 6 prawns. Still I am getting bigger and bigger mechanoid raid. My latest raid has 16 Centipedes + 7 Scythers. Human raid (Pirate) on the other hand is much much weaker than the mechanoid. I know that wealth can affect raid size but there isn't much I can do to reduce wealth. I wonder if I should get more prawn to help me with defends . Will more prawns make matters worst? I mean if I do nothing about it my wealth is just gona continue to raise and if there isn't a cap on raid size then it is only a matter of time before I get over run.

General Discussion / Re: Post a cool tip you know about!

Two tips for today.
#1 Go juice withdrawal on a prawn that has scar (or missing nose etc) = fall unconscious. This is because the +300% pain also has a effect on consciousness. The up side is the prawn can stay in bed until he comes clean, no more mental break. You can wake him up by give him go juice or anything that deals with the pain (e.g pain killer).

#2 How to steal item stash (ignore the enemy ambush).
To do this, just shot the wall until the stash is exposed. Then just pack up and leave the area using the reform caravan button.
Another way to do it is to use animal zone to ask the animal to get inside the building. You can leave as soon as the door is open.

General Discussion / Re: [A18] Wetlands - Swamp biomes

I haven't played the swamp yet. Sounds like what you can do to make building easier is to:
1) First forbid all the woods in the map so that your prawn won't be running all over the place to get the wood.
2) Cover your building area with "cut plant command and "Lay down some wooden floor. Your prawn will go there, cut down the trees, use the resulting wood to quickly cover the ground with wooden flooring, hence preventing seedling spam.

I have not done any injured refugee mission yet, so correct me if I am wrong. I assume you can build a 2x1 room, arrest the refugee, then take him with you? In that case I suppose 2~3 days will be enough to take the refugee plus mine out the map.

Why not down her then put her in cryptosleep?

I switch to peaceful in late game. Not because I can't deal with the enemy spam, but because I run out of room to store all the loots my enemy brings me. It makes the late game more enjoyable for me.

PS: Trade ship and useful late game stuff for trade should really appear more often as your wealth increase. I can afford ridiculous prices if it means I don't have to keep making room for more and more silver stacks.

General Discussion / Re: Post your best tips

Not sure if this can be called a tip.

I just realize, for caravan map that spawns enemy turret, it is *almost* possible to stay at that map forever. Take out all enemy force but leave 1 of the turret intact. Build 4 wooden walls to surrounding the turret so it won't shot anyone. From there on you need to make sure the turret never get powered down. You can rely on the solar and batteries that spawn with the turret for a start, but weather event/ Zzzzs / solarflare can cause the turret to shut down. You can't prevent solar flare from occurring but you can build wooden generators/ bring a vanometric powercell to keep the turret powered. Since a solarflare will shut this place down in 3 days, you can't really treat this as a permanent outpost. However you can build a ground penetrating scanner and start deep drilling until the place is empty.

PSM is awesome stuff for caravans, but one thing renders them useless for me.
There is no easy way to prevent pawns from eating them on a daily basis.
I want to accumulate them but every time they end up being eaten. They are quite expensive to make but at the same time they are almost useless now as it is impossible to accumulate in needed numbers for caravans.
To make them work you have to issue a stockpile zone for PSM only, then restrict anyone but the cook from going there and then unrestrict everyone when caravan starts assembling. Or manually forbid stacks of 10 PSM. It is simply not worth the effort.

Can we have an option to reserve certain meals for caravans? Or prevent certain meal consumprion to have a kind of reserve, given PSM won't expire.

If you have meals(simple, fine & etc) ready for your pawns, they will not touch your Packaged Survival Meal. Otherwise you have to forbid packaged survival meal, in such case your pawn will go for other raw food. Caravan can use forbided packaged survival meal.

Also your pawns will always carry a meal with them. This allow them to have lunch/dinner far outside of the base and not be forced to return to base due to hunger. If you have packaged survival meal available those will be taken first. Otherwise they will carry normal meals which can spoil in 3 days.

It may not make any sense on planet earth, but it would have make sense in the rimworld setting.

I actually find it strange that pawns get debuff thoughts from organ harvest and etc. In a survival situation you will be grateful to any resource you can utilize. If that liver from a prisoner could save your family, you should be happy about the rare opportunity of possible transplant.

Psychic shock lance.
On hardest difficulty it cost about 750$ each. A raider has a bionic leg worth 2200$ and you want it bad?
You know what to do.

You can setup an animal restricted area for packing/ unpacking/ milking/ training etc. This way you can unpack animal much faster. Remember to reset the restricted area after you are done.
When your caravan get ambushed, setup a restricted area to send your animal away for protection.

Traps seems to have a much higher chance hitting head and neck? A hit in the neck will one shot any raider.

From my experience, it is better to skip the stone trap, provided you can afford the steel/plasteel.
Stone trap works, however it is not very efficient to gather the stone chunk, craft stone block and build more stone traps over a larger area. For all that effort and time I may as well just go for the steel trap.
