Bugs / Prostetics not being recognized for surgery
April 04, 2020, 05:12:35 PM
So, this bug might not be just related to my single stock pile.  But there are stockpiles, where I simply can't place things.  I have chunks enabled on one, and it said there were no available places to store chunks.  I had mecanoid storage in another, and it said there was no place to store mechaniods.

But this is the first time, I've gotten this issue with something already in a stockpile.  One of my colonists has a destroyed left leg.  I recently unlocked prostetics, and made 2 legs.  I put a bill on that colonist to install a protestic left leg.  But its saying I don't have the available resources.  Do I need something other then the leg to install it?  Or is this bug related to my previous ones, where it simply doesn't recognize that my stopiles exist, and are configured to store things?

Hello all,

So this new update got me back into rimworld something fierce.  And I've enjoyed this game since I first backed it on KS.  So I wanted to keep voting with my wallet, and buy the DLC.  I'm just not on steam, as I prefer my lack of DRM.

Is there a place to purchase the new DLC other then Steam?

General Discussion / How do you get chicks from chickens?
February 18, 2018, 09:59:18 AM
Hidy ho all,

I bought some chickens from a passing trader.  And I have a few fertalized eggs sitting in a heated stockpile, but they are saying they've been ruined by the temperature and will spoil in 13 days.

What little I know of breeding chickens tells me you need a fertalized egg, heat, and a safe place to store them to make them hatch.  So...is this not the case in rimworld?

General Discussion / Can you stop nock down?
February 17, 2018, 02:26:01 PM
Hello all,

One of my colonists lost a toe on her foot.  The left second toe, if that makes a difference.  And now, if she so much as gets hit by a strong wind, she gets knocked over.  She's currently suffering from muscle parasites and can't move (though the other 5 people can).

Is there any way to increase her ability to not fall over as quickly?

Ideas / Not using up parts during operation
January 31, 2018, 01:45:08 PM
Simple enough,

recently, one of my pawns tried to do surgery on another.  She had a medicine skill of 8, and the other guy has a peg leg.  When she failed  :-\ the bionic leg she tried to install just disappeared.  I wanted to suggest, that this doesn't happen.  That if/when they fail the part they were trying install has a very good chance to be re-usable.

Not necessarily a 100% chance, but a high chance of the part being able to be recovered and used.  Or instead the part gets installed, but the colonist getting surgery has some very heavy bleeding.

Thanks!

Simple enough question for everyone.  I have 3 scyther blades, as body parts, sitting i my freezer.  And Im not sure what to do with them.  Do I sell them, do I put them on my hunters, should I hold onto them and wait until one of my colonists needs a new hand?

So what do you all do with them?

General Discussion / How large should bedrooms be?

Hidy ho all,

I wanted to know if there was a good rule of thumb for how large bedrooms were?

Ideas / pawns concentrate on one thing at a time
December 16, 2017, 05:45:32 PM
hidy ho all,

Simple enough.  I normally setup 4-5 things for my pawns to do at once.  then sit back and let them do them.

But, regularly I see them start something, stop half way through it, and start somethign else.  For example, my tailor will start a parka, a torgue, a jacket, and a pair of pants.  then start another parka.  And I'm just like 'you have one right next to you!  why are you starting another one!'  but this applies to everying.  Building solar panels, floors, walls, & doors just today.

My suggestion, more of a plea really, is to have them finish a task they start.  If they start a door, then break for lunch, then finish the door.  if they start a piece of clothing, they finish the clothing before starting another one.

Thank you for your time.

Off-Topic / Netnutrality is a thing again
July 12, 2017, 03:56:00 AM
Hidy ho all,

a few years back, we were able to keep the internet free for everyone.  But it seems that ISP's are trying to make it legal to allow them to regulate what we can see, hear, and who we can talk to.  They are doing this, but trying to pass legislation through congress again.  The vote comes up in 2 days.  Please don't let them control everything we can gain access to online.

This is a video that explains what net nutrality is, why its bad, and provides some helpful links in the description: https://youtu.be/K88BU3kjZ-c .

If you belive as I do, that we need to keep the internet free of control, and limitations, please follow the links below the video.

Thank you for your time.

Hidy ho all,

I accidentally recruited a captured prisoner, who has a shattered pelvis.

Now I have a useless colonist, just using up food.  Can I cure a shattered pelvis?  Or is he only good as a organ donor?
#13
Hidy ho all,

I'm getting the odd stash oportunity and caravan request.  But every time I go to setup a caravan, and select the food, it says the food will rot away in less then 2 days.  It doesn't matter if its simple meals, fine meals, Permican, or packaged survival meals.  All the food rots away in less then 2 days.

Am I doing something wrong?  Or is this a bug?

General Discussion / Luciferium need, whats it do?
June 03, 2017, 11:30:22 PM
Hidy ho all, one of my colonists has a need for luciferium.  I don't know if that's an addiction, or if there is something else going on there.

Do they need it to survive?  Or is that just an addiction?

I put it in spoiler tags, because its quite long.  To be honest, after I copied it to the clipboard, and started playing, the game runs fine thus far.  So I'm not sure what the error is about.

But I figure, just in case its something to lookout for, I would report it.  You never know.
#16
Simple question, but a genuine one.  The way solar radiation works on this world, the farther you are underground, the less radiation affects anything (organic or inorganic).

I'm not a scientist, so I don't know the exact specifications, or measurements (i'm a network tech).  But this video explains it alot better then I could.  the science behind vaults episode.  What it boils down to, is with 3 feet or dirt between you and a radiation source, it reduces it by something like 1000 (had to re-watch the video to be able to get that right).

So inside a mountain, why are electronics affected by solar flares?  I could see electricity producers being affected, outside that mountain.  But inside, you should be safe. Right?
#17
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before or not.  But its always bothered me how difficult it was to cool mountain colonies.

Mostly because there was no place for the heat to go.

So I wanted to add a suggestion that put some sort of metal tube above or below the floor.  This could then be electricity powered, and allow you to move cold air from one room to another.  Or move cold air from one room, and disperse it throughout the colony.

I would assume that this would be a technology you only need the advanced research table for.  But I don't see it as being so advanced you need the analyzer as well.
