Ideas / Re: Food restrictions
April 02, 2018, 06:03:42 PM
personally, what i do is having halves in my fridge and storage. one is for vegetarians because it contains only meat and animal products and the other half is for carnivores because it only contains veggies. then i get wargs and whatever the strongest veggie-only hauler animal on the map is, eg elephants and megasloths and problem MOSTLY solved.

all my pawns generally eat fine meals, my prisoners aswell, the ones that are having a hard time get a lavish meal transported directly into their cell after it is cooked by the cook personally. lavish meals are limited to 1 per map aswell, so once it is eaten, the cook will prepare the next one. obviously, when i dont have vip's in my prison, i deactivate the cooking task.

the one thing that i still cant do efficiently enough is kibble for my chicken. i already bring all the hay i produce into the barn and when i have superfluous meat or veggies, i produce some kibble, but usually i cant do it efficiently enough. it is still by far the best solution to just produce an absolute assload of hay and just let all the pets on the map eat from it. the rest is just complicated, usually doesnt work out, is inefficient, is hard on my cpu or all of the above.

i would also like to feed my wargs kibble, but if i cant, whatcha gonna do...

yeah, the niches are important. problem is, corn already fills that niche you are talking about. takes a long ass time to spoil and considering daylight and so on corn is also currently the best crop to grow in rich soil.

if you want anything new implemented as long as it fills a niche you can go for other options in my opinion, like something that you dont need to cook for it to be liked by most pawns like apple trees for example (or any other fruit tree, really). they take a long ass time to grow and at first only produce very little, but it slowly but surely increases its yield until it reaches full maturity. and yes, we could obviously speed up this growing process from the real world to rim world time. like we could harvest it once every other quadrum and they would reach full maturity after i don't know maybe 5 years.

another idea of mine is pumpkin. has very low fertility sensensitivity just like potatoes (and in real life) and produce a bit of pumpkin after a short time, but might need a lot of space, as pumpkin is known to grow all over the place (like my pumpkin in my garden that easily grows 10 m and grows 2 big halloween style pumpkins in a few months, without much watering or anything)

another idea of mine would be ANYTHING really, that grows best in normal soil, as of now corn yields the most over time in both rich and normal soil and you dont even have to do much with, as if you sowed rice in its place you'd have to sow, harvest and haul all the time and waste your precious pawn's time for it.

and i'd be very happy if we could add ANY veggie that could survive winters outside. as of now, nothing aside of trees does, so the only way of getting anything going in tundra would be apples.

another idea of mine would be something extremely fast growing, as sometimes you dont even have enough time for rice, to counteract this sheer speed it could be very inefficient. i don't know what is known for growing super fast aside from beans, but beans are supposed to take yet another role in rimworld - growable protein source, so you could make vegetarian fine meals.

yeah imma stop for now, if you want some more options, i'm always open for that

Ideas / Re: Hand power generators
April 01, 2018, 09:13:38 PM
no need to immediately nerf your invention, i think it is good as it is

as someone who has tried some of these machines myself in real life, i can tell you how ridiculously inefficient they are. to keep a sunlamp going you'd need dozens if not hundreds. keeping a ventilator on is easy. but heating up water or even cooling down a room is VERY hard.

on that topic, i think many machines in rimworld are unbalanced if you look at power consumption. cooling and heating is easily the most energy consuming process in any household. light on the other hand should be much cheaper than they are now, even large sun lamps. i am not sure about hydroponics in real life, but i always felt like they were kinda cheap in that regard. but that's kind of a different topic.

generally, having a couple of these manual generators wouldnt be too bad as in bad times you could just assign a couple pawns of yours to work out on them and it will produce a bit of energy. problem with solar flares is that it reks your machines, not that it sucks your energy out of your batteries or something. the hydroponics just wont work, that's all, with or without manual generators.

but as an early tech i'd love it. you would get it for free when researching electricity and the wood burning generator thingie would have to be researched cheaply and afterwards wind, solar and in the end the ones you place on geysirs.
in my vision you could build it very cheaply with a small amount of steel and some more wood, maybe 30 wood, 10 steel and a component which is the price of a barrel without the component.

Proper zone restriction will generally prevent animals from consuming drugs (including beer) most of the time; animals are coded to sometimes consume any edible item at random regardless of zone restriction or door forbidding.
wait what that is actually a thing? so my chickens will run out of the barn every now and then to go smoke a blunt real quick? wtf? no way that can be real.

Thank you, but this is only half the answer.

What specific items affect the beauty of a room, environment, etc?

What specific things can be done to increase/decrease a room's beauty?  An environment's?  Specifically, how much does adding or changing an item affect said beauty?

Is this in the wiki somewhere?

If not, can I contact the game developer, sign a Non-Disclosure agreement, look at the source code (I have a bachelor's degree in computer science am mentally gifted and can easily read source code even in computer languages I'm not familiar with (before getting struck with Crohn's disease, I was a C/C++ hacker), and PUT IT INTO the wiki?
every piece of furniture with a quality associated with it (usually all the packable things, so no walls, workbenches and graves), be it awful, shoddy, poor, normal, good, superior, excellent, masterworkor legendary has beauty. often, wooden objects have a pretty high beauty already, if you wanna do better go for marble (out of all the rock types it is usually the most beautiful), or if you can afford it silver, jade and gold of course.
by the way, sculptures increase beauty by a very high amount, usually around 100-1000, but even grand sculptures only apply that beauty bonus on one tile. and yes, you can build better beds and not only will your pawns sleep better, it will also make your room look more beautiful. be careful about marble beds though. pawns dont like to sleep on rock that much, it is too cold and hard.

but generally speaking, just look up every piece of furniture's description.
if i remember correctly, gold floor is by far the most beautiful, then comes silver and shortly after carpet with beauty 2. then stuff like rock and so on at 1 and then pretty much everything else at 0, except concrete i think, which is at -1. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY. anyway, long story short, go for carpet flooring everywhere if you are for cheap beauty, go for rock flooring if you want to be firerpoof and everything else is quite useless. if you are too poor for carpet it isnt really worth makig wooden floors either because you either lack the wood or need more beauty or cant keep it clean. btw, keeping the floor clean is way more important than its beauty anyway. the slightest bit of dirt can ruin the whole carpet's beauty in your room. better invest into a janitor.

it's best if you look up every piece of furniture on its own though. any type of machine or workbench doesnt have a quality and therefore doesnt have beauty, even if it's built from a different kind of material, even barrels. horseshoe pins have no beauty either, chess tables do, though, just like billard tables. it's kinda random.

i'd totally appreciate it if you made a list though and i am sure others would aswell.

i'm also curious how the heck animals inject luci and go juice
or how animals smoke flake and smokeweed
or how turtles snort yayo
or how they "take" wake up (however that might be)
Just about all smokable/snortable and most (but not all) injectable drugs are also effective when injested orally.  Ever heard of "pot brownies", as an easy example?

Eating most drugs generally causes slower onset of the "high" and it often lasts longer, as well.  Effects can also change; eating marijuana actually *increases* the effects of the drug, for example.
well, on the other hand drinking alcohol is much elss efficient than shoving it up your ass (and i am not even trying to be rude here, it's a real thing, apparently poor people get wasted this way regularly before going partying)

also, just like many poisons, not everything is remotely as strong when eaten than when used in other ways, as it has to go through your liver first. injections are way more efficient as it goes directly into your blood stream without passing through your liver, smoking, huffing, snorting makes you absorb it through your skin inside your body which has a huge area, that is also pretty efficient.

all i'm saying is eating mechanites (i assume luci is mechanites, as its description says you cant get it out of your body) should not be nearly as efficient as using it properly so it shouldnt work either.
and your example with space cakes is also easy to explain if you look at the sheer amount of weed in them and how much you eat. i am talking out of personal experience, i can eat a whole box of strong ass (and heavily weed-reeking) space cakes. on the other hand, it just takes me a few huffs of smoking the same stuff (and a joint has way less inside aswell) to get high as hell.

i dont have a problem with ambrosia, because you have to eat that stuff anyway. or chocolate. or eating smokeleaves (not the joints) which doesnt make animals high.

yeah, dentures should have a cost just like peg legs do. maybe steel and stone? maybe plasteel if you actually want to increase your pawn's eating speed by a bit and give his jaw more hp for the next time?

disfigured in my experience comes from total max hp lost due to scars and lost parts, be that toes or fingers, ears, eyes and so on. as an example i have a beautiful pawn with a missing toe, finger and a scarred eye. everybody is afraid of her ugliness now.
pretty damn sure it can happen with every body part, except for ribs and inner organs, so yes, also ears, the nose, all scars, all limbs, fingers and toes.

wait i thought walls werent beautiful or ugly, only floors, because walls cant be assigned beauty points. it's just that their wealth is also calculated into the wealth of a room.
and brick walls are better than rough mountain sides because...well...it's just a pile of boulders, aint it

i've always wondered what were the first and most basic options that tynan implemented into the game and generally how few things you could do at start.
but also, what options werent in the game that seem like the most natural thing to me right now? how can you play without them?

I don't know about you but I always make penoxycycline - Malaria and the Plague are game-enders.
may i ask if you play on the two highest difficulties? i dont do it regularly enough it seems, or at least i have been lucky enough, as i have never actually lost a colony to a disease before. maybe a prisoner, maybe an old pawn here and there.
do you maybe lack enough good doctors? i always have a whole slew (just like i do (herbal) medicine) so that i can tend to everyone in light speed.

there's a mod for that and as far as i can tell it doesnt seem like it will be added
other than that you can use your prisoners for all kinds of shenanigans without having to recruit them:
- harvest their organs, install peg legs and dentures and let them go. at some point they will come back as weak and almost crippled enemies to attack you again. -> easy pickings
- prepare their social tab with tons of friendly chats (for marriage or when they are badly predisposed towards many pawns)
- beat them up and doctor them together again for medical skill increase
- sell them
- give them luci and let them go in hopes of them returning with more luci
- crypto kill them
- use your main trader to friendly chat the shit out of all of your prisoners to increase his trading skill
