Where are the sheep! I mean seriously!? What kind of space farm is complete without space sheep?

Muffalo are kind of sheep + buffalo, hence no sheep.

No they aren't. Real-world buffalo, in and of themselves, produce wool-like fibers. The only difference between "buffalo" and "muffalo" is apparently a (IMO) stupid name.

There are many reasons sheep (and goats, for that matter) are preferred by homesteaders over other domesticated animals, such as cattle or alpacas. The fact that they 1) are "small" (eat less food, take up less space, and require less grazing land) 2) produce wool 3) produce meat 4) produce milk 5) produce hides. Cattle only do milk, meat and hides (while being all-but a waste of space) , and alpacas only meat and wool. Sheep/goats are simply more "cost efficient".

In reality, sheep or goats would be the perfect animal for a colony to have.

Yeah well too goddamn bad it's year 5500 and the sheep + buffalo have bred into a hybrid called the muffalo, deal with it.

That it's 5500 year doesn't change how big Muffalo and Sheep are.

Sheeps are better. Deal with it.

Well yeah, a few thousand years could with interbreeding and genetic modification would produce different sized animals, plus different planets.

Someone doesn't know how science works.......

Yes, through the use of "genetic modification" (aka selective breeding), domestic animals have gotten bigger over time, but no matter how much you breed those sheep, it isn't magically going to change into an animal the size of a buffalo, or even into an entirely new species. They would have too many health problems.

Sheep and buffalo are different species, they can't interbreed and exchange traits. "Genetic modification" ..... maybe, but considering how both sheep and buffalo have already been (and still are) genetically modified (Through selective breeding) for far longer than Rimworld takes place in the future (11,000 to 9,000 years for sheep, 5,000 for water buffalo) and they haven't been turned into some sort of hybrid, it is highly unlikely that some scientist would (or even could, in fact) "cross the traits" of the two species in the future.

" Gee, let us take the good parts of a sheep (wool, milk, low logistical needs) and give them to a species that is far larger, harder to control, and requires more space and food! Sounds like a great plan!".

That would 1) be stupidly expensive, and 2) completely uneccesary. Sheep are already basically "better" at everything a buffalo/muffalo/cow can do

"A gigantic creature of unknown origin."

For all we know, a Thrumbo could be an honest-to-goodness alien, that is, an animal that isn't descended from Terran-based lifeforms (aka all of the other animals in the game), but instead native to the planets that we settle.

"Scientists can do whatever they want. FOR SCIENCE!"

Yeah, up until their sponsors pull their funding, due to the scientists doing nothing but wasting it, or they get booted out of the scientific community, for not holding to the scientific method and publishing articles that are misrepresented at best, or outright false at worst.

You forget that a) it is F*CKING HARD to pedict the future, and b), that knowledge grows exponentially the more you already have. we have accumulated more knowledge in the last 200 years or so than in the entire rest of human existence. now, think about how this pace will grow QUICKER in the next 3000 years, if humanity doesn't get decadent or some apocalypse-type thingy happens in between. Also, increasing the productivity of something(like sheep) automatically means reducing other advantages - at some point, you'll have to either increase size and food consumption, or decrease some other trait, like being easy to handle, for example. Also, humans tend to do incredibly stupid things, please don't forget that.
