In games like Gnomoria or Dwarf Fortress, you can put farm and bed rooms on ground or building, and storage room and whatever in underground.

In Rimworld however, you need to put everything on first floor; so say you have 3000 metal and wood, 4000 leather, 9000 foods, that takes about 200 square, and add bedrooms and farms, it make large colony extremely inefficient.

In short, we need multi stacking storage.

Stockpiles should have maximum of 500 stacks per item don't ya think? Hmm.
Bleeeee. . . . .

Noo, I think it would be way too easy to have 500+ stacks. One, small refigerator would be enought to freeze couple tons of rice :P But I think something like shelves which would allow to have 2 or 3 items per square would be really nice.
English is not my native language, so.. feel free to correct me :P

There's a few mods for that. They generally allow higher stack counts (e.g. deep storage, quantum storage), but it'd probably be a quick xml change to tone them down a bit.

Mods, my friend, mods.
I don't use any of the highly technological ones, and I prefer Skullwags. Different storage options for different things

I'd be happy if colonists could just organize storage better, as opposed to wasting space by leaving 1/2 stacks of things laying around.
