https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=15774.165 - Link to First Thread Page 12: PLEASE HELP THIS THREAD! HELP NEEDED FOR PART 2 (ALPHA 14 ANIMALS AND ONWARDS)! SHOUTOUT IN EVERY POST I MAKE FROM NOW ON IF YOU COMPLETE ONE ANIMAL PROFILE! PLEASE!) (Check Thread for details...)

Hello! Due to the astounding success of the first thread, https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=15774.0 (Pets: The pros and cons of your animals), I have made a part 2! This part will feature profiles just like the ones in part one, but for Alpha 14 animals and onwards! I would've put them all together for your convenience, but the character limit is 20,000 and it would've surpassed it. So, here's the successor thread! (Note: Part 1 Remains unchanged.)
The separate animal profiles each contain detailed facts and stats about the animals. They feature production speed for things such as wool and eggs, and attack/speed/defence '1-10' charts, 1 being worst and 10 being best. Each profile also features a descriptive paragraph on that animal.

This thread is great for reference in your game. Thanks for reading!

(PROFILES WILL START HERE! VOLUNTEER YOUR HELP USING THE LINK AT THE START OF THE POST AND GET YOUR NAME FEATURED NEXT TO THE ANIMAL PROFILE! THANK YOU FOR HELPING!)

Not actually a spider, the Megaspider is a genetically-engineered giant insectoid the size of a bear. Designed for heavy work and combat, its thick, chitinous armor makes it hard to kill, while its long deadly ripper blades make it deadly. COURTESY OF STORMYSUNRISE

PANTHER

Damage - 9/10
Defense - 9/10
Speed - 10/10

Tameabillity - 2/10
Intelligence - Intermediate

Diet - carnivore
Gestation Period - 22.5 days
Avg. Babies per Birth - 1
Produce Times - none
Maturity Age - 0.85+
Market Value - 650

Panthers are wild hunters found mostly in tropical rainforests. They are the fastest animal in the game, equal with cougars and lynx, and have one of the highest DPS, yet they can't haul or rescue, making them one of the best offensive animals out there. Their life expectency - 13 - along with their maturity age, gestation period and market value, make them good animals for selling. COURTESY OF ALEKSH

MEGATHERIUM

Damage - 10/10
Defense - 2/10
Speed - 4/10

Tameabillity - 0.3/10
Intelligence - Advanced

Diet - herbivore
Gestation Period - 60 days
Avg. Babies per Birth - 1
Produce Times - none
Maturity Age- 4+
Market Value - 1100

Megatherium are slow, peaceful giants that reside in forests. They're the hardest animal to tame, train and breed. They deal amazing damage and health, and they can haul 300 items, but are rather slow and have a huge hitbox. Good as a meat shield and hauling pet, but not much for offensive compared to other animals.

RED FOX

Damage - 4/10
Defense - 6/10
Speed - 8/10

Tameabillity - 2.5/10
Intelligence - Advanced, can't rescue

Diet - carnivore
Gestation Period - 18 days
Avg. Babies per Birth - 1-3
Produce TImes - none
Maturity Age - 0.5+
Market Value - 210

Red Foxes are small hunters located in forests. Their damage isn't good, but their speed along with their size makes them hard to hit. Not the best animal for offensive purposes, and training is difficult. Decent for selling, but not great.

LYNX

Damage - 6/10
Defense - 8/10
Speed - 10/10

Tameabillity - 2/10
Intelligence - Intermediate

Diet - carnivore
Gestation Period - 22.5 days
Avg. Babies per Birth - 1
Produce Times - none
Maturity Age - 0.7+
Market Value - 320

Lynx are aggressive wild cats that live in the coldest northen region. They are the fastest animals, equal with cougars and panthers, and have decent damage. Accompanied with their size, they can be good for fighting raiders. Taming them can be dangerous, though.

Only in RimWorld is the phrase "31 Heavily-Armed Siegers are currently bombing your base" preferable to "50 manhunting squirrels are attacking your colony"

I used EdB Prepare carefully to spawn in with 4 Megaspiders, so I can try to help you with the megaspider section

Ill edit this post in the format if you want

Megaspider:
Attack - 5/10
Speed - 4/10
Defence - 8/10
Tameability - 0.5/10 (untameable unless Development mode/Mods/ recorded as 95% wildness)
Intelligence - Intermediate
Diet - Omnivorus
Produce Times - None
Maturity Age - Spawns in Matured
Market Value - 600-700 Silver

from my playthrough these guys were easily taking the fire from a 7-9 person raider squad, however they largely miss most melee attacks while they take lots of fire. useful as a distraction, nothing more.

I split off death of children from here.

Also, I didn't really follow the first thread, but I don't really understand this.  I would like to, though.  Why not just copy data out of the XML files?  What's the difference?

It's basically a simple reference guide for animals in the game. Let's say there's a trader and they have a husky and a warg. You want to know which one to buy, so I made these threads to be easy to open, flick through and compare two of the animals easily, rather than going to the wiki and figuring out the DPS compared to the other one, then working out the HP and then calculating that with the DPS to find out how good of an attack dog it is etc. This is just a reference guide with a hugely-long reply thread filled with helpful tips  :D

but...you can just hit "info" on the animal to get all this information just as neatly organized and more precise (like knowing a megatherium has dps on par with bears, wolves, and cougars, but does far more damage per hit, but slower hit speed)
