You could also remove all mods, delete all saves, uninstall, reinstall, and start over. Looks like you've got missing or corrupted file(s).

I did everthing that said but no chance, i still just have a black screen and cant launch the game.

milon

Hi exxe, welcome to the forum! We're more than willing to help you out with that. Please tell us what OS you have (Windows, Mac, Linux) and what RimWorld you have (Steam or DRM-free). Also, see the link in my sig about bug reports & log files - I'd like to see your log file if the game created one.

I have done all of steps game doesn't work. Can I have a version of the game not on steam instead would be great!
I want to get playing so plz get back to me ASAP.

milon

You can only get non-Steam RimWorld from ludeon.com

If you're still in your refund period with Steam, you can return it and purchase RimWorld from Ludeon directly.

If you're beyond the refund period, see my prior post - provide more details and we'll try to help you get it running.

Tynan and Co,

thank you for good game, new-year update and for the support in this thread
In my black-screen situation (no music, no sounds, only black screen with win pointer), it helped only to  :o change the time zone in Windows clock to UTC + 6.00 (instead of UTC + 7.00).

Are you saying that changing your system's time zone fixed the problem?

Milon,

Yes, in my situation this change fixed the problem.

One russian guy already described such situation for other Unity-based games. I just followed to his advice.

@WhatsOn: Can you roll back your OS update?  I know virtually nothing about OSX, FYI, so I can't offer anything better than stupid ideas like that.  :P

@JJRaz: I see it's been over a month now.  Any success?

No still no go. i really want to play the game but all i can do is to wait for an update that fixes the problem i guess.

milon

Have you tried Alpha 16 yet? What about the other fixes posted by other users (like changing time zones, etc)?

Hey guys, bought the game tonight on Steam and it's consistently failing to launch. Managed to briefly get the main menu to display two or three times, but it always crashes with the same "Oops![...]" error message within five-ten seconds. Tried everything that was suggested in the thread and then everything else that I could think of, from disabling Steam overlay/file sync, various permutations of compatibility mode/run-as-admin, to uninstalling/running the registry cleaner/rebooting/reinstalling to changing permissions etc. etc. and the results so far have been the same each time. Even tried copying the install folder to the C: drive and running from there, for what good that'd do with a Steam game.

Running on Windows 7 64 bit, Radeon R9 280x, Phenom II X4 B50 with 8GB of RAM.

A .zip archive of my most recent crash folder is attached, if there's anything of use in there.

Edit: Tried A14 and A15 through the Steam betas tab, but no joy.

Thanks for the informative post and the crash report.

Can you run other Steam games successfully?

RimWorld uses Unity for its framework. Can you play other Unity games on your PC?

Are you using the latest drivers for your video card?

Open your Steam Library, right-click RimWorld and go to Properties. In the Launch Options section, set it to "-force-opengl" (no quotes) and try running RimWorld. Does that fix it?

Every other game in my library runs fine. But now that you mention it, I had the (seemingly) same issue with Jalopy - but not with Receiver or Unturned.

I did try "-force-opengl" in my initial efforts to fix things, but beyond displaying an all-pink window before the crash I had no luck. Also updated my drivers and rebooted, but still nothing.

I guess it could just be an issue with my machine and newer builds/versions of Unity, since I never did find a fix for Jalopy after a few days of searching and ended up refunding it. If nothing else I'll keep checking in after each update, and I'll probably install Rimworld on my laptop in the meantime - I think it might just about manage without choking, heh.

Thanks for your time :]
