Colonists Use Pack Animals to Haul

Muffalo are used to carry goods in caravans, right? So why can't we use them to efficiently haul around base?

My suggestion is that a colonist with hauling task feeds a tame muffalo, then has the muffalo follow them around as they collect stuff to haul back to the stockpile. The muffalo holds everything to be carried until full, then colonist takes the muffalo back to stockpile to deposit the goods.

Is there any reason why this idea didn't get any responses?

It seems like a straightforward and good idea to me, pretty much a no-brainer. Is it already planned?

Considering the infrastructure is now in place to have characters gather based on carry weight (for caravan loading and the so-called "Super-Hauling" trick) isn't the whole current hauling system in need of a re-write for colonists as well as the suggested pack animals feature?

Colonists carrying one T-shirt at a time is frustrating, to say the least.

And as always.. sorry for my bad english

Well irl pack animals take a super long time & a lot of work to pack-up. More than it takes to just carry something a short distance
The weight of the cargo it'd take for a pack animal to be able to carry enough cargo a short distance to be worth the hour+ of packing up & then unpacking, plus the risk of damage and injury, is way more than any animal could carry.

Where is your basis for that?

Donkeys have been used for short haul work on farms and elephants for moving stone or logs for thousands of years.

How long dof you think it takes to shove some potatoes in a sack and tie it to a harness?

Longer than just carrying it cause a mule doesn't arrive at your destination faster than you & one sack of potatoes doesn't slow you down.
And anyway I'm A) referring to beasts of burden, not the kind that have saddles. We're talking buffalo, and B) even if you're saddling you still have to factor in the time to saddle up the animal, saddle down them, maintain the saddle after & the animal. All for, importantly, a short distance. Quicker to walk. Not easier, or more convenient, but quicker

1) mules/donkeys are beast of burden. I'm talking about this kind of set up:

2) An animal could do a days work wearing harness and only need to remove it at the end of the day. With a carry weight of 70kg a muffle could carry more than 2300 potatoes or 1400 units of steel.

That's 20 journeys saved. How is that not worth it?

Edit: my phone has some autocorrect madness sometimes.

Basicly a good idea.
But you realy need clever hauling scripts they even think ahead.
Not to speak about picknick table/stool that the animal need to carry in case the hauler get hungry far away from the base.

If a weight/mass system gets added to the game, we're going to need a way to haul heavier items.  IMO, that should be traditional beasts of burden.  I'd love to see muffalo and alpacas (with a pawn handler) used to haul  heavier loads.  Maybe some additional animals like horses or donkeys and even animal-drawn carts.  I'd love to be able to have my pawns harvest a field and then load up the cart, which one guy can then take to the stockpile.
