I was thinking about some games where the city or planet is lawless, some of them have radio stations (Like GNR from Fallout 3). What if the Rimworld had a radio station that you could build a radio to tune into? When you turn it on it will replace the main background music for as long as the radio is on.
You see this tank?

This tank is the epitome of "I'm going to destroy you"

This tank can make Chuck norris cry.

All hail the Takemikazuchi.

While I think it'd be a cool idea, but there's a big problem. With large games like Fallout 3 they have quite a large budget for music and sound effects in general. I imagine Rimworld does not, so making a bunch of extra music and radio announcer voices, etc. would be difficult, and I think an unwise use of finances.

With a mod doing it on the other hand someone could make it so that the system will look at your music files, so a player who downloads it could hear music they already own on the in game radio station. Of course people could just turn off rimworlds music and turn on a music player in the backround for a very similar effect. :P

I was just thinking of pure music, no radio announcer (Unless Tynan himself voices him). Something to listen to when the games main music gets a little old. I was thinking of Cowboy Bebop western style music.

Yeah, don't get me wrong I think it'd be really cool. I just don't know what it costs Tynan to get Alistair Lindsay to write and record music for the game, but I imagine it's not too cheap considering that studio time is expensive to begin with regardless of who's doing it and in this case it's a guy who's worked on some pretty big name games before.

Have a radio built that can take music from a folder on your computer. Bam, any music you want.
I like how this game can result in quotes that would be quite unnerving when said in public, out of context. - Myself

The dubious quotes list is now public. See it here

Thats a fantastic tie-in, especially since there are numerous potential parallel's and tie-ins to FTL that people can come up with/have suggested/etc.

The thing that makes Rimworld and FTL vastly different is that Rimworld's lord prevents Faster Than Light travel whilst FTL's does not.

Still would be cool if a derelict cryosleep pod crashlands in your colony
and violent mantis named charlie bursts out =P

Hmmm, Cowboy Bebop. Is it time to re-watch it yet?...
Anyway, I approve of the radio idea, and having some...code or what getting the music from your folders isn't half-assed either, but it'd be cool if the radio would have the bad-speakers-quality, you know, for the feels, like actually listening to a radio. Besides, it's possible that melodic death metal isn't exactly befitting Rimworld's universe, more western style musics would be better... x)
I for one often think about the Borderlands games playing Rimworld. ^^
To beer or not to beer.
That is a laughable question.
