So, I don't think this has ever been addressed directly - at least after some googling and searching the forums.

I have a case where the prisoner is going to die. Its too late. But suppose its marginal?

To be clear, I am talking about infections in critical parts that cannot be amputated and doing literally everything possible to boost their chances of living and catching up on that infection.

After trawling the wiki, it seems the only important factors are best treatment and maximising blood filtration. Treatment is dealt with in many places, but for the sake of completion, best treatment would be best doc using best medicine and never late! Make sure they are rested, fed and kept in a hospital bed with vitals monitor to improve immunity gain.

So, maximising blood filtration... From what I can see, you have the following options:
-Luciferium for 170% boost.
-Kidney transplant, IFF the kidneys are damaged. (?)
-Liver transplant, IFF liver is damaged. (?)

Have I missed or overlooked anything that can give a boost, possibly via a knock on effect? Any bionics that can help blood filtration? Assuming you won't fail, is there any downside to doing surgery?

Sounds like waaaaay too much work.  If your best doctor can't slow down the infection enough with ordinary medicine then you might as well just let him die and find another prisoner to recruit.  Or is there some roleplaying reason you're determined to keep him alive?
If you give an annoying colonist a parka before banishing him to the ice sheet you'll only get a -3 penalty instead of -5.

And don't forget that the pirates chasing a refugee are often better recruits than the refugee is.

Is wanting to look after us and our own roleplaying? If so, then yes, for roleplaying reasons. Enemies are left to rot, colonists are saved at all costs.

If we're talking marginal, then when you got a good roll last time don't re-tend until the last second. If you got a bad roll last time, tend as soon as you possibly can.

I never got how pawns in the game could have such insanely bad reactions to such mundane things.
Then I came to the forums.

It may sound like cheating but you can instant heal him with healing mech serum.  :)

Yes Bionic kidney/liver enhance the cure process.
But wouldn't that a waste of resources on a prisoner ?

When i see a prisoner infection step ahead the immunity process, i would release him and he will survive.

Some mod add stuff to enhance the blood flitration/metabolism like Vegetable garden some meals and fruit drinks.
And i saw Antibiotica too from some mod.
Blueberries are a new mod with medical abilities too.

I think there may be some misunderstanding. I wouldn't bother to do this to save a prisoner. But sometimes a series of bad lucks winds up with a colonist having infection in advance of immunity.
I play vanilla. Well I play with one mod (dinner table simple) because the way the game handles eating at tables and the associated debuff is so broken I would go so far as to call it a bug. In vanilla there are no bionics for liver or kidney, so I guess transplant is only effective if there is damage... In the case of this prisoner, he had damage to both kidneys, the liver, and then caught malaria because I guess it just wasn't his day. He should have been treated well enough with the herbal meds but the combination of these just meant that pretty good treatment wasn't enough and I didn't see it until it was too late.

Healing mech is only cheating if you spawned it :P I have a resurrection mech quest reward but currently no healing mech. I didn't realise that it can fix infection - that is good to know!

Very small thing. But now you have 3 hours of treatment where you can replace it (or not). Replace it immediately if last treatment rolled bad quality and wait those 3 hours if last treatment was good.

I guess it's a good use if you know the colonist will die otherwise, but the only cheating going on there is cheating your colony out of mech serum :D

Give the doctor Go-Juice for the sight bonus, and to the patient for the blood pumping bonus.
