Am I tending wounds wrong?

Hey guys, just got this game and I am totally loving it. Fighting some rabbits with my bare hands cause I'm tryna do a caveman cannibal guy and sometimes they bite back! All good, I've seen on some videos that your lil characters can heal themselves up and "tend" to their wounds.

Just wonder how I do that ? I have the green thing check-marked that let's them heal themselves, and I am allowing my guy to be a doctor under the job tab, but he still won't bandage any of his wounds! He just chills out!

Please if you have any information about how I can get my villager who is solo to tend his wounds on his own that'd be sweet. Sometimes he does it randomly! But it's like, it should be what he does right away tend his wounds imo. Thanks in advance!

On the colonist's health tab there is selftend checker. Turn it on.

He's already mentioned that self tend is checked I believe.

Have you right clicked and told him to prioritise tending to himself? Sometimes they're strangely reluctant to stop themselves bleeding to death.

You can also change the priority of different jobs if you switch it over to number based. It's somewhere in the top right of the job tab in vanilla (I think!). I usually have doctoring/patient set to a high priority

You only should allow self tend to your best (active) doctor.
The skill and the medicin got a big influence on how you treat the wounds.
So the pawn heals up faster and don't get an infection, then when a skill 0 treat his own wounds without any medicin.

Wait are you saying a skill 0 doctor with no medicine can make a wound worse than not tending at all? Or just "Don't leave self tend on for everybody because this can happen"?

As to the OP, yes. Make sure self-tend is on and then right click your pawn while he's also selected, and "Tend to <pawn>" should be a option. If it's not then maybe he's incapable of caring?

I never got how pawns in the game could have such insanely bad reactions to such mundane things.
Then I came to the forums.

You may also check what kind of medicine you're using. Because self-tending uses the medicine checked, if you don't have medicine or herbal medicine, you'd need to check the "no medicine or worse" or "herbal medicine or worse" in order for the self-tend to work. Just keep in mind self-tending, even with good medicine, take a little bit more time than tending other wounded pawns. And if you already did that, then I don't know why it doesn't work, unless you haven't set the Doctor chore as priority number one or two.

Not worse, but the chance for an infection are significant higher.
But better use a skill 0 doctor, then to bleed out.

Switch to manual job priority, change doctor to 1 and set everything else to no higher than 2. This will make your pawn prioritize doctoring jobs over everything else. If it's still not working, right-click the pawn and force the job.

Canute

Normaly you don't need to change it. Doctor is allready pretty high at the priority.
Except you allready mess around with the priorities and gave your best doctor a 2 in some other worktype, then you should set doctor to 2 or 1.

To be honest I thought I had it figured out, and then realized nope I was still bleeding ahah. I've tried everything, Doctor is prio 1, he can self tend, changed the medicine tab thing for what he will use. I don't see any option to right click him though as some people have said. Like it just highlights the character I don't get a lil dropdown menu or anything.

I guess it's okay since he's bleeding but it's just minor so time will go buy and he just won't die but still gross getting the base all bloody XD! I'll keep working at it and try to figure this out! Thanks again all.

NoJoke77

Oh my, just as I post that I realize it is because I had him drafted that I couldn't right click! HOLY SMOKES! Mind blown thank you SO MUCH GUYS!!

Geez dude. It's okay... it's okay. XD
