hard to sell - trader problem
« on: July 12, 2017, 08:04:21 AM »

Why is it so hard to sell some stuff?

I have so much stuff that I can never sell, because traders that can buy it are very rare.

To encourage sending out caravans. Settlements will buy most things, unlike caravans.

Its about time that you active sell the stuff.
Made your own caravan and visit some non tribal outpost. Outpost got mosttimes more silver then their caravans and buying nearly anything.

Unless you're trying to sell shoddy granite sculptures, in which case you should just deconstruct the lot.

And don't forget that the pirates chasing a refugee are often better recruits than the refugee is.

Caravans certainly are turning into something pretty essential now.
It means that your placement on the map is now pretty crucial - before it was largely irellevant since you rarely had a good reason to leave your map.

I definitely try to pick a location close to at least one outlander settlement, or connected to one by road (double movespeed on roads).

I still find that traveltime makes it hard to justify trading in anything but the largest scale though - because losing so much work-time on your pawns hurts a lot. Even a close settlement can take days to get to - and god forbid you live in mountains or have to cross some to get there. Can't risk sending just one or two people with lots of pack animals either since they will be toast if ambushed.

But yea - pick a good location + plan your caravans soundly - then caravan trading is a great idea.

Cultivating good relations (I really recommend the hospitality mod) also means you can request caravans to come to you more often - although they rarely have quite as much buying-power as visiting their town directly.
