i'd be honest, when the lightning(?) ganked the steam gen + watching the overall base design..
i kinda tuned out. (it felt like the colony was doomed to fail after watching the first week of gameplay.. but i could be wrong, if so, my bad.)

can anyone put into spoilers about the interesting stuff i might've missed?

Its not about the colony its really the narrative that wins. Dont watch it for Rimworld watch it for what Rimworld does to Pflax and how it effects his narrative.

Yes what skullywag said:-)  actually i know what is happening everytime,, but the way pyr tells the story it makes you appreciate how awesome rimworld is, and how great pyr tells a one of a kind story, its a very touching narration!
