General Discussion / Re: Voice acting.

Not that I think this game needs it, but as a working actor I feel compelled to say, "Please give me a job."

In theory, "Working on the game" involves paying salaries and other incidentals as well.

To go with the Shark Tank example, they are investing in products because these are companies that are only making one product. They are giving the money to a specific business, which is why they often ask, "What do you plan to do with this money?"

I voted for the Greenlight...hopefully I'll have a bit of extra money to throw at the $30 tier sometime before the Kickstarter ends.

I'm somewhat in the middle on this, ammo should definitely be plentiful, but I still think that it should exist. Maybe only larger weapons should have ammo? Like, if you build a gigantic future catapult for some reason, you should need to build catapult ammo. But for a gun, no big deal.

Traps....maybe being able to hide turrets and set them off with some kind of tripwire?

Holy hell, I just had a crazy notion. I'm still fuzzy on all this kickstarter stuff but...

Select a couple of beneficiaries to have the artist loosely model a couple of character sprites from. Even if you end up with 16-bit models or whatever, that guy can always take pride in the fact that Settler X is him.

Edit: Sorry for not offering too much insight on the bio thing, I think it's a very sound idea and well-hashed out in this thread so I just wanted to try and toss a few more lemons into the pie.

This one is easy enough. I'm a bit late to the thread but I'll see if I can think of any good ideas what haven't already been mentioned.

A developer voicing publicly being fine with piracy of its own game does not happen to most games. Most devs don't tell anything about it, some get angry at it, and a few make fun of it, like the devs of Game Dev Tycoon did.

It surely helped spreading the word, as it wasn't a "bad" thing to get the game for free. As you didn't feel like a thief or a pirate, it became natural for most people to buy it after a while. The game has many other qualities as well that made it that famous, but the "fine with piracy" aspect is often overlooked.

Gratuitous Space Battles, Hotline Miami, McPixel (even promoted on The Pirate Bay), Amnesia, many Indie games have gone the route where its "not a big deal."

But in general the gaming industry has by and large just not done anything. They are not the MPAA and the whole "kill all pirates" idea is mainly just some executives at the main studios and no one else cares.

And yes, Minecraft at the very very beginning had what is now known as Classic Minecraft and you can still in fact play it for free.

Frankly, I think the best thing to do now is add on more than the 8 or so testers there are, and thus have the game start to gestate in the public. That of course is my shameless attempt at getting to play the game, I'll even do a Let's Play!

This is more an attempt to get the discussion back on track. This thread is about quick updates, not Steam vs. [platform], right?

This was one quick update, no plural, and it was about Kickstarter. As the campaign hasn't started yet, by your logic this thread should just be left to die.

I may have to repeat myself, but before actually buying the game in alpha or beta, a lot of people got it for free, either from Minecraft.net directly, with all single player features, or a cracked version allowing multiplayer on cracked servers. And that was totally fine.

And this happen to most games, but most games do not become Minecraft.

This is quite out of the scope of this forum, and that wouldn't bring any of us any good.

So let's be giddy in anticipation together about RimWorld coming on our distribution platforms of choice !

It would be good for everyone here if you had a compelling reason.

I saw an interview with the IV guys about why they set that price point. They basically said that they would like people to think about the game before they get it. They think the game is best experienced when you've thought about it a little bit and decided it's something for you. I basically agree with that notion. I don't really want to position RimWorld as an impulse buy like an iPhone app - at least not at release.

So on the other hand, when I thought about PA, I had already played Uplink, DEFCON, and Darwinia, so I had plenty of faith that PA was going to be a game that I would get multiple hours out of and would evolve into a game that I would get much enjoyment out of. It makes the price more palpable since I need to stop spending infinite amounts of money on games.

Perhaps OP should edit the OP so that all the reviews are in one place at the start of the thread.
That'd be OP !

OP=Original poster or original post

I don't think you got the joke.

General Discussion / Re: Relation to Prison Architect

In my imagination, I have a small colony with a giant prison of poor raiders or colonists who did something I didn't like. These people then do the menial labor for my better colonists. Then, if they ever riot or get upset with being a slave, and defeat my amazingly high-tech AI Security, I feed them to the Rancor, or whatever space monster is living inside the rock I carved my base into.

Blablabla... Europa Universalis is good... blablabla...
I feel I should play that game... I am just afraid it would eat my life.

It might not...
But the desire to mod it...
That ate my life.
Im currently in rehab... forced by my wife.

I got my girlfriend to play Hearts of Iron III, and I didn't see her for about three days.

I never stop being amused when people bring up DF while talking about graphics.

However, if at some point you want to make a second game that's "Space Prison Architect" I would buy that in day.
