ah-ha (on the AI difference info- thanks)

Pheobe isn't cutting me much of a break yet, though, ha!  (she did give me a nice timeframe in the beginning to get started- but its all downhill, disease, and plagues now)

it's all good. it's fun. but my people will soon all be dead and the town will be run by Yukou the Cat and her friend the Iguana. (who are probably better at it than I am anyway)

(new to the game still - just piping in - about things of which I know little)

my 1st game- I built a wall about the living area of the colony, with turrets at each opening. worked well to kill raiders and defend my city.
but it was boring. (of course I am still playing on either Base Builder or Some Challenge)

so now I just put a couple small sandbag areas  on each 'side?' of my colony. but the Raiders always seem to attack in such a way I can not get to my sandbags, or they are just in the wrong spots.

I did have a game where I had an animal tamer who had a fleet of killer elephants and rhinos (iguanas, alpacas, a muffalo, etc). I would send out my fighters/animal tamers- turn OFF their \fire a will\ and let the pachyderms do their thing.  It was my best defensive play yet.
(most of my would animals die from friendly fire- until I started turning their free fire off)

Speaking of Bored after mid game- that's usually when I just start a new colony. I revisit the late game colonies from time to time.

I know, I'm a gaming wimp.

I  bet lots of people start out in a hard mode/level, but I like to warm up to things and am not an avid PC gamer. So I spent  a month enjoying base builder level.
decided to play Some Challenge. This AI (Pheobe) hates me. people get killedoff, she sends me Escape pods or refugees.... they are almost always non-violent. I have gone up and down in numbers. I am at 5 colonists right now. almost all are non-originals. only 2 will fight and they are shooting levels 1 and 3.

no real questions. just a rant, I guess. (am I allowed to post a just a solilioquy?)
and-  It might be awhile before I try the next harder level. (I love this game though)

(but sometimes I do wonder why non-violent colonist won't even defend themselves against a maddened rat. sigh)

I either sell them or operate on prisoners- attaching them to the prisoners that I don't want to convert- upping the medical skill of my doctor.  (My undesirable prisoners get released with 2 peg legs, dentures, and scyhter blade  hands).

I have only been playing a month. so far I don't play to 'win'.  After my people put all that time & effort into iguana breeding and house repairs, they usually grow to like their new life and want to stay.

General Discussion / colors of houses?
January 24, 2018, 10:13:17 AM
I did a search & couldn't find the answer, the answer is probably "nothing"-but, what is the difference in colors of the colony houses and outpost teepees on the globe map?

(1) - maybe player created characters only appear in your game if you say to add them on the option menu.( maybe they don't get to live in the Rimworld forever once created, sadly )
(2) - how does one create their own character?

I think it is kind of funny when my colony gets raided by, for example, Ally the pirate, and Ally the pirate was one of my colonists last game.

(just discovered this game a month ago)

General Discussion / Re: Introduce yourself!
January 12, 2018, 05:38:39 PM
I just started playing Rimworld last Month. (I came here looking for info on sensory mechanites)

My college age son introduced this game to me. Sometimes I play Civ5, but I generally don't play computer games. I prefer tabletop games.

no funny/embarassing gaming stories.  (I'm still learning all the buttons here)

In the real world I am the head seamstress for a companies that designs things like Radio Straps for firefighters

(but Rimworld AIs all think my goal in life is to be a chicken breeder. )

Fruity Pebbles is the best.

These are great! I love reading about the sculptures! (my current colony portrays a lot of dead chickens it seams. we have  bit of a chicken overpopulation problem- its a good problem for when we get low on food. hence all our 'slaughtering chicken' sculptures)
