Hey, I'm a big Rimworld fan who's been lurking on this forum for a few weeks and finally got around to making a profile.

What introduced you to Rimworld?
I found this game through Steam around early 2016 and, although I didn't buy it at the time, I kept my eye on it for several months. Around August, I got on a community sim kick and started playing older games in the genre like Towns and Dwarf Fortress. Finally, I decided that Rimworld was the game I was really looking to play and purchased it. Rimworld's take on interstellar sci fi is quite honestly my favorite that I've seen in quite a while, and the game has gotten me thinking about technology and human society in ways I'd never considered before.

What's your favorite other game?
Some of the first pc games I ever played were Portal and Portal 2, both of which are faves. My favorite game I've played since then is probably Factorio.

Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
My autobiography.

Favorite breakfast cereal?
I never liked breakfast cereal, but since they're made of practically the same things and, depending on how you do things, eaten at the same time of day, I'll say bread pudding.

SAZZF

HI, My name is Sazzf (nickname) i'm from indonesia  :P

and i'm interest in rimworld since i play it for the first time and i just got crazy how the game is working like nothing can hold the challenge and the A.I. is so amazing  :-X

another game that i like to play (almost same as rimworld) is ark survival because in that game the gameplay is really realistic.even thou there is dinosaur in there

Catastrophy

Spotted the game in summer, waited for a sale on Steam. Didn't want to wait any longer. Surprised how good and how much potential there is. Feels like it's been inspired a lot by DF.

I like story-like elements, catastrophic failures, unforeseen consequences and ingenious use of mechanisms to make something happen with unforeseen consequences.

I'd love to have a bit of verticality in Rimworld. More events! Devices and contraptions! Socks and carps!

I'm liking the setting, ambient and soundtrack. Feels like Raynor on Mar Sara.

count_joshoo

Hello Rimmers! (?)

My name is Josh and I've been a RimWorld addict and r/rimworld lurker for about a year.  The game overwhelmed me at first so I put it away for a rainy day.  That rainy day came and I haven't stopped playing, or ignoring my kids, since.  It's pretty damn amazing.

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
I was playing a great little game called Hearthlands but eventually I needed something more to scratch that city building itch and I found RimWorld.  It was the game I was looking for and I didn't even know it.

-What's your favorite other game?
I really like western action RPGs (Bethesda style) as a genre, I like some sports games also.  The only games that, as an adult, I've become as obsessed with as RimWorld where Dragon Age (Origins only, f*** the sequels) and Don't Starve.  I also have spent some time with Civ 4 and 5, FTL and Hearthlands.  I'm not much into narrative games, so games where I shape the stories being told really appeal to me.  There aren't too many cut scenes or dialogue boxes I won't skip.

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?

Just being terrible at most games is enough right?

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?

Straight up Cheerios or blueberry frosted miniwheats obvs.

cammillotto

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?

I can't really remember how but I was looking for games similar to the Powdery Toy and ended up buying Rimworld on Steam

-What's your favorite other game?

So far, SimCity4 DeLuxe with al lot of mods in it.
Also: GTAx, FIFAxx, Wolfensteins, Total Wars

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?

Can't get a city running more then a few years in City Skyline; there are more games I didn't finish then finished

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?

Eggs ain't a cereal :-)

Konscience

Hi there, don't know if anyone still read this, nor if I'll be here for a long time as games usually bore me real quick...
But this game is one of a kind so I thought about introducing me-self.

I'm Konscience, a french guy , I'm about to pass (or not) my computer science degree (3rd year).
I really do love games who make me think hard, so you will never see me on those app-like quality games, unless I'm really depressed.

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?

I discovered Rimworld on steam, I don't know, maybe 6 month ago, maybe less I can't say.
I used to play a little DwarfFortress some years ago, was really into it, but i spend more time reading the wiki than playing the actual game.
It's still by far my favorite kind of game, but the lack of graphisms was kind of boring...

-What's your favorite other game?

I really liked "The Void", X3 Albion Prelude, Stalkers series, Souls series and for those who had the privilege to play it, LEGO Rock Raiders.

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?

Playing multiplayer games with random people. Toxicity in multiplayer games and MMOs is driving me mad, I go in a mental state and start hiding in my room. Final straw was: "Got insulted for being falsely accused of using the wrong skill"

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?

I think muesly is quite good, mainly nutrient-wise, but the main issue there you see is, it start going between the teeth as it is quite hard, become uncomfortable...
But you can't beat left-over Carbonaras or bacon and eggs, with English muffins and a nut of butter...
I'm so sad that here in France we do not have anything else than Croissants, bread and confiture, as they are quite expensive (except for the bread, but you need to have it fresh from the Boulangerie, else it's hard as rock).

-Why do you love so much arguing with people?

I'm reaaaally sorry for the future and past blunt replies, sometimes I do not think over my thoughts, and it end up on a forum before I even realise  ^^". In fact I do not love arguing.

I think I'll do some modding in Rimworld, as well as some scenario...
Right now I'm in exam periods so it's not quite possible,
but I already have modded my game by:
-Removing breakdowns
-Reducing pawns social fights and bad social relation effects
-Reducing the frequency of solar flares and short circuit incident
-Reducing consumption of regular standing lamps (75W is really like ye old seal-burner, acting as a bronze lamp & a heater aswell)
Nothing fancy, but I like the the ease of modding here, and the modifications above are not vanilla friendly enough... need no think of better solutions.

pawelcichonski

Heya, This is Pawel from UK

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
I'm old and going to die soon. Was brought up with games like A-Train, Incredible Machines and Theme Park. So I was always absorbed by that flavour of games.

-What's your favorite other game?
Xcom - Terror from the Deep, Flashback (Amiga), Alpha Centauri, Doom 1, Lemmings (Amiga) Zybex (Atari), Syndicate by Bullfrog, Carmageddon 1.
Arcade Beat'em ups (90's era).

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
My mom entering my room while I'm playing "Sex Machine" on Amiga.

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?
Me likes sandwiches instead.

alxddd

Hey! I thought it might be high time I came on here and wrote a short bit about myself so y'all know I'm not just a troll.

I've been kicking around the RimWorld since A11 or so, not long before animal taming came to be. I heard about RimWorld through the Three Moves Ahead podcast in an episode about Cities: Skylines (one of the other games I'm guilty of obsessing over). I gamed a lot as a kid and teenager, all the way from the old DOS Carmen Sandiego game to everything Sim (remember Sim Hospital?!), the the original Metal Gear Solid, and Final Fantasy VII. But then got away from it as I grew up and stopped being able to afford systems and computers and all the things you need to play great games. As I've gotten older I have been able to get back into it and find that I am maybe more deeply impassioned by games than I was as a young person.

Unfortunately, time is at a premium in my 30's. I run a relatively new restaurant/bakery in Toronto, so gaming is by no means my #1 priority. But RimWorld has really captured my passion and I try to contribute as much as my time will allow, and I can't wait to see where Tynan takes us next!

LaEsmeralda

Hey! I'm really new, just started a colony a week ago, and so far i really really like it! (i mean, i've already been playing it for 35 hours lol). Also, i'm from Argentina, English is my second language, so i may have some grammar mistakes.

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
Well i've always loved playing PC videogames, including strategy ones such as Age of Empires or Command and Conquer. I found Rimworld while i was exploring Steam (which i had previously only used to buy the Portal games) and what attracted me was the concept that, in this game, your units actually had a character, they had different personalities and backstories and capacities, and weren't just disposable clones made for working or fighting only. I actually care about my colonists here.
-What's your favorite other game?
Portal 2, probably. Its certainly the funniest one.
-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
Oh, there are sooo many. The ones that come to my head right now are all from WoW (because everything is 10 times more embarassing in multiplayer lol), i was the worst player ever, especially on raids... once they pointed out how little damage i'd do and how easily i got myself killed and i got mad and accussed them of xenophobia. "You're just against me because i'm latina right?" x.x I was such a brat.
-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?
Breakfast? Pff, most of the times i skip it and go right to lunch. Ain't nobody got time for that! lol

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?

I was looking for something to help reset my brain. Early last month I ended up in the hospital and nearly died from blood loss. As it turned out, a huge tumor had taken up residence in my guts and had to be cut out. I spent 10 days in recovery before they cut me loose. I went home with a 8 scar on my belly, a bottle of pain pills, and I was 20 lbs lighter than when I went in. I'm a writer by trade and had a hell of a time getting my brain to reset and start working again. I'm pretty sure it was the blood loss. I had to have 8 units replaced and being severely anemic made sure my head was always in a fog. I was looking for something I could run on my MacBook that would be challenging and fun. The first few times I tried to play, I ended up just letting my colonies die out because I had trouble concentrating. After a few days I finally got the gist of the game and started playing in earnest.

-What's your favorite other game?

Probably Skyrim or Fallout 4. I'm a sucka for big open world RPGs.

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?

Back when I had a day job, I was laid off for almost a year in the early 2000s. I played Everquest to pass the time. I had a level 65 ranger with dual epics. I seriously thought about putting that on my resume.

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?

Black coffee. That, or Cocoa Pebbles with rice milk. I can't drink regular milk anymore which sucks.

-Ridiculous pictures

Hanging with 'Daryl' at some con a few years back.
Fulltime author of books and stuff.

FireDevlin

Hello all.  Been lurking for awhile, just wanted to say hi finally.

LockheedJim

I'm just a regular guy. I like Rimworld a lot. Great game to play during down time. We get to bring laptops to meetings so I sometimes play while pretending to listen.

bryanicus

well I was born November 24th 2001 and have liked computers all my life me and my family have been facing hardships lately such as my mom getting cancer my dad losing his job etc luckily we are recovering now I am planning to attend community college then going to a university but for now I am in my freshmen year of high school and have been doing ok

ps: I have been having a lot of creative energy lately and I would try and get the backstory pack but we don't have the money to spare

Dooge

Great game. Like you can tell it's made by intelligent, thinking being. That is quite rare in the flood of games these days.

I also love the (a16) direction taking the game more global and interactive with the whole world.

Smoof47

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
Well for RimWorld, I think I watched a YouTube video and just searched up the game. Been playing ever since. As for the genre, I would say that prison architect really got me into the genre of simulation.
-What's your favorite other game?
I would have to say Mount & Blade Warband. Good game and I can't wait for Bannerlord.
-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
Anytime my Dad tries to watch me play anything. He seems like he is intersted but I find it hard to explain what I'm actually doing, especially in RimWorld.
-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best
Honey Bunches of Oats, good stuff.
