UPDATE: Version 4 is out now!

https://jamessimo.itch.io/rimmap has been updated to version 4! This version enable Beta 0.19 saves (very janky):

New in v4

 • Added Sandbags
 • Beta 19initial support pass (bridges and new tile types)
 • Added ability to share maps via URL
 • Added deep resource view
 • Default to non HD textures to fix crashes on windows machines
 • Show item hit points
 • Removed "Filth" or invisible items from tile click

Please try out the share map feature and share the URL here! I would love to see all your saves!
The app works with Beta 19 but is missing a lot of new items which I haven't had time to add yet.

v3

 • Dynamic texture loading to drastically shorten the load time
 • Texture modding support
 • User can now use HD or nonHD textures to help loading/performance
 • Removed unnecessary texture chunking code

v2
 • Use real textures from the base game
 • Added 99% of all known game items
 • Added example maps
 • Improved loading times
 • Huge performance improvements (7FPS to 60FPS)
 • Loading progress bar

KNOWN ISSUES

 • Some missing items show up as a green box with a strike
 • User controls (Zoom in/out) are not polished

IN DEVELOPMENT FEATURES

 • Allow user to use the planning tool and export their save file
 • Show heat map
 • Show and edit zones
 • Show minified items (un-installed/packed items)

CRAZY FUTURE FEATURES

 • Allow users to share their saves with other users using a short URL
 • Show all save info including the the entire world map, individual colonists  and  economy
 • Integrate with steam to download your save straight from the cloud
 • Allow users embed and annotate saves (suggested by @TynanSylvester himself!)
 • Make this into an electron app that would track and record your current sessions and make a time laps of your game

Orignal post:
Hey guys, I joined the forums last week to ask a question about parsing Rimworld save files, I got a great answer and now can launch my HTML5 Rimworld map viewer.

https://jamessimo.itch.io/rimmap

All you need to do is upload your save file and you can view it in browser. It should show all terrain types and vegetation but it currently does not show most items like guns and pawns, will add these when I first fix some really bad performance issues.

I have not tested this with many map types so your milage may vary, please share screenshots of your colony!

This sounds really cool. I always like to look back at sort of "milestones" or something from the colonies save files I have. I know I could just take screenshots, but this is still neat regardless. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

I can't wait to be able to use this to brag about my colony taking over their continent.

Updated the OP to show some future dev plans.

Tynan retweeted it and even offed a suggestion!

Also been getting steady traffic (10 ~ 70 people per day) and has had almost 5,000 views since v2 launched!

Feel free to leave feedback and all that good stuff!

What does this mod do. All I can assume is that you can play Rimworld with a browser for that is what I read that I comprehended. I may be dumb but I don't grasp what exactly this mod does. you pointed out that it increases frames 10 fold and that would really help me out. Again I may just be dumb but I'd like to know exactly what this mod does. Thank you again.

Canute

This isn't a mod, it is more a tool.
It can show you your safegame without to start Rimworld itself.
Mosttimes thats faster.
For normal gamer it is nearly useless.

MisterVertigo

This is really cool! I can't wait to see it when you get more features put into it. Thanks for making it!

This looks awesome and I hope it continues to be developed.
But technically I think it might be in the wrong forum as it is not actually a Rimworld Mod :)

As said by another poster, this isn't really a MOD, its a savegame viewer for your webbrowser. The end goal would be to link it to your steam cloud and you can view your save game away from your gaming PC.

The 10fold frames was an update to the original that ran very badly when viewing saves. This does NOT  modify your game.

Any suggestions on where I should post this? Its not a mod but I couldnt find anywhere better to post it.

Not Really, just making an observation.
It could go in "Tools" or in "General Discussion", but mods work just as fine I think as I feel it is in the spirit of a mod even if not technically one.

VERSION 3 is out!

To make sure I can load in all the new assets in Rimworld v1 I have completely re-worked the way I load assets and now the app will only download the exact assets your game save.
The list of key features is;

 • Dynamic texture loading to drastically shorten the load time
 • User can now use HD or nonHD textures to help loading/performance
https://jamessimo.itch.io/rimmap
I am now going to add support for version 1 save files and hopefully knock off some of the known issues I want to fix/add.

If you have a cool v1 save file feel free to share it as I have a small data set of saves to test.
