[MOD] (Alpha 8) Nuclear Power Plant

Impressive and cool!
Question. Due to the new system were have template etc should it not be possible to make the powerplant more dangerus by making it modular?

Like reactor caimber, reactor cooler, power output and lastly uranium road. That needs to be changed every year, or something :)

Just noticed simular thing we're mentioned :P

Have you considered making a smaller nuclear reactor that you can place under a roof?

the question is how much detail you want to add, to a certain point it may look like an individual game "Nuclear Power Plant Simulator" 8)

i always dreamed to have a nuclear reactor in my bedroom ::)

jokes aside, you can edit the Def yourself, as i said it's an improvised mod which may not balanced.

open "Mods\Nuclear Power Plant\Defs\ThingDefs\NPP.xml"

edit size:

<size>(6,6)</size>


to be placed in door, delete

the question is how much detail you want to add, to a certain point it may look like an individual game "Nuclear Power Plant Simulator" 8)

On That note add Thorium Salt Reactors, tactical nukes made from depleted uranium, and the ultimate goal of achieving fusion power: for the record, a single pure fusion reaction? power an entire city :P

Rimworld uses a basic power system, we need to change the power system before we start making things that powerful.  Also, realistically, the game uses watts for everything, where a nuclear reactor produces MEGA watts.  One reactor would power all of rimworld permanently.

I will create a thread here soon with some ideas and such for modders to help accomplish, because I know that Tynan will not want to make such a huge change (or is unlikely to, since it would change pretty much everything).  Give me some time to research things and such though.  I have ideas for how to impliment a nuclear reactor system as well.  :P

I miss BetterPower+, it was rather good and had a fine nuclear reactor.  Anyway, if eatKenny wants to impliment one of my basic ideas for a reactor, he can.  I'll go ahead and give that idea soon.  I'd do it myself but I can't art.  :P  So, I'd need an artist to help with it if I were to do it myself.

All that heat could be useful in a winter base with temperatures of -80c  ;D

as a game rimworld has already downscaled many things like "fully grown in 2 days" potatos, so i think it's ok to have a mini neactor that only produces 20kw.

i play rimworld since late alpha 6 so never used BetterPower+, i'd like to know how the reactor works in that mod.

This was sort of an idea you could do for yours to make it more realistic.  Instead of making it modular, you combine multiple things into the same building.  Kinda like I did when I made a realistic reactor.  However my art skills are bad, all I can do are squares and circles.  Nothing like what you did.

This is a Sodium Reactor, using liquid sodium for cooling instead of water.

If each square is 1 meter, then this is roughly scale size of the one in real life.  I'm considering making it half size, but I would need a better texture for it.  :P  Haven't released yet, having issues with it, big red errors.

looking forward to your code. don't worry about texture, i will make it.

about the size: i think something like 3x3 to 5x5 is good enough, you never go realistic size in a game (otherwise the cooling tower will be 100x100 and all the bullet will fly through the whole map)

would you like to release it as a new mod or an extension of this mod?

As long as the reactor is less than 10x10 it will fit inside a building.

ded1, this can't have a roof over it.  :P, it's too tall for that.

Anyway, I'm releasing this as a new mod, I just don't have a good texture for it.  My net is disabled at home so I am unlikely to be able to talk much about it.  I intend to keep this one the same size it is, because it provides an extremely good amount of power, and will never run into any sort of complications unless attacked and destroyed.
