I think it would be great if, after the ship construction, you could take with you 5 people and a finite number of resources and fly to another world/location. So you could start with more resources, trained people and tech.

GamerGuy

It may just be me but after 4 years I want my colonists to just fly away and after 1000 years under a rock in space they can tell people about there storys.
You see to me they would make a ship and move to a new location for another 4 years and leave again ect.
It would ruin the game for me.

I agree with GamerGuy that after all the crap of surviving on a hostile world that the last thing you want for your colonists is to have them stranded on another world like its the scifi version of A Series of Unfortunate Events (yeah that kids never caught a break).

But I also like Spawny's idea because I only built a ship once. Maybe we can't use all the colonists we rescued, but have an option that we can take one or two of people who escaped on the ship as a reward. So I think both had their merits.

I think after ship construction Tynan should make RimWorld 2 with the story continuing as a journey to your original destination (home planet etc.) before your other ship crashed (maybe in the vein of FTL?) instead of colony building, ship improvements...

BUT... for now I'll take Alpha 10 please.

I rather like the OP's suggestion. Colonists are on a long journey to reach a destination or bust, and there's alot of busting.

Do you give up and settle in or keep pushing, keep reaching?

New Game + Is always supported. But IMO your ship should determine how things happen.
IMO no resources should be taken except 10 food, weapon, armors all on colonists.

When you land the ship can be deconstructed for resources.

Myself I don't mind never seeing again my survivor except in very rare fortuitous occasion. I hope for them to land somewhere else than a dangerous Rimworld.

It also help that I encourage ENDING game.
So I don't think we need any game-mechanic after those end. (endless game would be treated aside as exception)
"Sam Starfall joined your colony"
"Sam Starfall left your colony with all your valuable"

Write an Event
[Story] Write an ending ! (endless included)
[Story] Imagine a Storyteller !

what if you could leave and land onto those other planets like the caveworlds or the Glitterworlds, or kinda have the ship layout like starbound be able to see the system and just travel were u please

I think the most adequate feature to add is a random text story that will be displayed after liftoff. I think the ratio 'work required to implement the feature / player's satisfaction of reaching the endgame' will be the highest in this case. As for now the ending is a bit anticlimactic imho, I'd rather read something like "The ship AI gone mad and crashed the ship into a star" or even a more complicated story like "The ship AI decided to land you on an urbworld, where Bob became a bartender, Alice decided to join a gang and Pete died due to his cryptosleep capsule opening during the descent".

Personally, I think a randomly generated story of what happened after should occur for each character. It would add some depth to the game, I am sure.

Maybe made it ad lib style?
