Ideas / Re: Your Cheapest Ideas

Introducing... private property!

You get the power to freely assign an owner to every object in the colony: if they don't get any owner, they'll remain of "public property" and can be freely used by anyone, just like they work now.

When a colonist owns an object, only they can use it by default. Ex. If they own an anorak, whenever they get cold they'll go and put it on, if they own a chair, they'll always choose that chair to sit on, etc.  They get a debuff if they own too little and a buff if they own a lot of things, and both grow proportionally with how many stuff they own (or don't). They also get a debuff if something they own is suddenly given to someone else or turned into public property.

A colonist will get a debuff if you make someone they are neutral or rivals with use or take the stuff their own, and their relationship with them will go down: if the other colonist is already a rival, they may try to arrest them for theft/property infringement and take them to the prisoners' cells. If the one using their stuff is friends with them, however, this doesn't happen and the one who got "robbed" doesn't get any debuffs. You know, because bros.

This could come with a new trait, "Kleptomaniac", someone who will occasionally get a mental breakdown that makes them go on a stealing spree.

Cats should scratch and bite colonists from time to time, also

and be more of a night animal. who like to walk around their bonded human, to give them disturbed sleep.

And they should scratch and destroy your couches and beds every once in a while.

Thanks, i guess low self-esteem (?) stopped me from making my pawn a Mary Sue lol. As for the challenge, i'd love to see you trying it out! :P

Colonists should get one-sided crushes on another ones and be constantly trying to propose to them and get a mood debuff whenever their crush rebuffs them, treats them poorly or dates someone else. 'Cause you know, real life is not so perfect and people don't get over their crushes so easily and unrequired love can happen to any of us and- YES THOMAS I'M TALKING TO YOU! WHY DO YOU KEEP IGNORING ME AND ACTING LIKE I DON'T LOVE YOU?!

*ejem* ...please ignore that last part.

Don't you ever think to yourself "How can it be that these average, random people are capable of building a colony, working so hard and for so long and not cracking under the pressure of their situation and the pain of being so far away from their home? I surely couldn't do something like that...

...could i?".

So well, one day i decided to find that out: if i, as an average middle-class gamer chick, could make it through in a Rimworld. With a little help from the Prepare Carefully and Additional Traits mods, i modeled a colonist after me. With a name, age, looks, background, traits and abilities (okay maybe i was a bit generous with those lol) that mostly resemble mine.

(btw sorry for putting a link and not the actual image, the insert image function doesn't seem to work with my link... or maybe i just don't know how to use it idk)

Done with that, i chose Cassandra Classic Some Challenge Permadeath mode, selected some few resources, added in a yorkshire terrier and a cat as my pets (because those are my real-life pets lol), and just jumped straight into the challenge.

On the fourth day a maddened rat bit me, the wound got infected and i suffered a slow, painful death.

I've officially failed at life.

Thanks! Again, sorry for the noob question..

Hey, sorry if it is a dumb question, but... i have an old A15 save in which i had used mods that have already been updated to the A16 version, and now i can't load that save without those mods. Is there some way to fix this and not lose that colony?

General Discussion / Re: Introduce yourself!
December 19, 2016, 10:53:58 PM
Hey! I'm really new, just started a colony a week ago, and so far i really really like it! (i mean, i've already been playing it for 35 hours lol). Also, i'm from Argentina, English is my second language, so i may have some grammar mistakes.

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
Well i've always loved playing PC videogames, including strategy ones such as Age of Empires or Command and Conquer. I found Rimworld while i was exploring Steam (which i had previously only used to buy the Portal games) and what attracted me was the concept that, in this game, your units actually had a character, they had different personalities and backstories and capacities, and weren't just disposable clones made for working or fighting only. I actually care about my colonists here.
-What's your favorite other game?
Portal 2, probably. Its certainly the funniest one.
-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
Oh, there are sooo many. The ones that come to my head right now are all from WoW (because everything is 10 times more embarassing in multiplayer lol), i was the worst player ever, especially on raids... once they pointed out how little damage i'd do and how easily i got myself killed and i got mad and accussed them of xenophobia. "You're just against me because i'm latina right?" x.x I was such a brat.
-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?
Breakfast? Pff, most of the times i skip it and go right to lunch. Ain't nobody got time for that! lol

This is a story i like to call... "Jono's the worst hunter ever"

It started on the colony's first week; i had four colonists, all completely unprotected and not that good at fighting, and only two of them with long range guns. And yet, i thought it was a good idea to try to hunt down the Thrumbo that had just appeared!
So my hunter Jono was all like "Nah, it's no big deal", walked outside the house, and shot it.
...five seconds later, he was laying unconscious on the ground.
Rozalina went out and rescued Jono, but then ended up knocked out; Speights tried to rescue Rozalina and ended up knocked out; Tomomi tried to rescue Speights and ended up knocked out. And the Thrumbo had barely gotten a scratch. So basically i ended up with three of my colonists lying on the ground in shock, the other one bleeding out in his bed, and with an angry Thrumbo walking around them.
Luckily, after a few hours of inmense agony, the Thrumbo calmed down and Jono recovered and could go out and rescue the other guys. They spent the next few days in bed and taking turns to heal each other.

Oh, but it gets better. Weeks later, some boomrats walk in and one of them starts attacking no other than Jono.
And what does Jono do? He fights them back.
All of them jumped over him and murdered him in an instant. Then, they surrounded the building and i had to forbid my other colonists to go out so they wouldn't suffer the same fate: they had to spend the whole day indoors, wasting time, until the boomrats starved to death. Rozalina ended up having a mental breakdown and locking herself in her room, while Speights spend all hours crying at his friend's body and nearly went crazy himself.

So yeah, Jono. Great job. Your hunting skills nearly doomed the entire colony... twice :P
