Ideas / Event Idea - Psychic Warp
July 14, 2015, 10:06:18 PM
The world feels different somehow.

An event that temporarily amplifies negative mood effects and potentially makes positive mood effects into negative ones. Plus a bunch of creepy descriptions. Deep-insanity style.

- Observing corpses has a much larger effect.
"The dead... I can feel their stares."
"I can hear their pleads for help... stop. Please make it STOP."

- Socializing with any other colonists may have the same effect as talking to an Abrasive pawn.
"Someone just said something I couldn't understand... it was horrifying."
"Someone talked to me with a voice that wasn't theirs... I feel uneasy."

- Spacious rooms may produce negative effects. Cramped ones get amplified.
Spacious interior "This room... why does it feel like it's expanding?"
Cramped environment "I can feel the walls inching closer. Their whispering voices gets louder... someone please let me out."

- "Convinced by Warden"
"How the warden described this colony... it was incredibly disturbing."

You guys get the general idea.
I just want a bit more conflicts between my colonists to happen.

Off-Topic / Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata's death.
July 13, 2015, 08:51:33 AM
Express your sadness appropriately.

Wikipedia:
In 2014, Nintendo announced that Iwata would not be present at E3 2014 due to medical-related reasons. It was later revealed that he was undergoing surgery for a tumor in his bile duct. On July 12, 2015, Nintendo announced that Iwata died at the age of 55 due to complications with a bile duct growth on July 11, 2015. He was survived by his wife Kayoko. Funeral services are planned to be held on July 17.

Flags at Nintendo's headquarters were lowered to half-staff. Members across the gaming industry and fans alike expressed their sadness on social media over Iwata's passing and gratitude for his accomplishments. Shuhei Yoshida, president of SCE Worldwide Studios, stated "He has given a great contribution to the development of the gaming industry. I will pray for Iwata's soul." Composer and director Junichi Masuda, most known for his work with the Pokémon games, tweeted "He was a man who understood Pokémon, and a great leader. When I visited the other day, he was well. I will pray for his soul from the bottom of my heart."

Ideas / Trap idea - Explosive Canisters or Barrels
July 09, 2015, 09:32:05 AM
Craftable metal canisters or barrels filled with alcohol you can brew.

- Would not set off when walked over, instead it needs to be shot for it to trigger.
- When shot, it would trigger instantly.
- Would be pretty medium in size so your colonist would have little trouble shooting it.
- Just explodes or causes fire? I dunno.

I'm not sure how realistic this is, but whatever. Just an idea I had.

Ideas / Trap idea - Buyable Landmines

Landmines that can be bought off combat traders.

Basically an IED trap on steroids/higher damage.

Edit: Triggers instantly too.

Aside from Rimworld, I also once made some for a game called Space Station 13 (SS13)

Thought I would share these too.

SS13 is a
2Dspacemansimulator
A game about the crew of Space Station 13 trying survive various horrors of space and human stupidity. and smoking weed in the corner of hydroponics.
Each round of the game is unique, random and usually chaotic and for the most time, just plain silly.

Though there are multiple servers each with their own way to gameplay. Some are focused on roleplay, some on the silly parts, and some somewhere between the middle. These were made with Goonstation (Silly/Fun focused) in mind.

(Yes, you can make butt robots that make fart sounds, It's that childish awesome.)

Ideas / Getting shells from butchered Tortoises
July 01, 2015, 08:34:26 PM
Tortoises can drop their shells once butchered.

The raw shell can be used as a form of improvised helmet or if undergoes tailoring processes: an improvised vest. Of course this wouldn't beat actual armor and their resistance values would be pretty weak.

To prevent the sight of an entire colony wearing green hats, the catch is the turtle's shell must not be destroyed or heavily damaged when it is being hunted. Or else it would drop very low durability (1-10%) shells.

I just got the idea after seeing turtles being mentioned for a while now.

Ideas / Trap idea - Exposed Electric Cables.
July 01, 2015, 09:29:18 AM
Lines of cables without insulation (or something) being used as an electric-based trap where it zaps oblivious fools stepping on it.
I don't really know how electricity works. So I can't make a proper suggestion of how the trap would work.

Help me out here.

Ideas / Starting a Game with Combat
June 30, 2015, 10:01:50 AM
Starting the game in an eventful way.

Instead of stranded space people, you start out as veterans of the Rimworld. Running away from a quickly closing manhunter pack, group of pirates, angry tribals, scythers or just a swarm of bloodthirsty squirrels.

How it would work:
- Your colonists would spawn just off-screen but nearby to the center of the map where the view is usually focused. They would then run into view shortly.
- They are guaranteed to be armed. But their weapons would be randomized.
- They may also wear armour. But it is not guaranteed.
- The game notifies you of which direction the enemies would come. (East, North, South, South-east, etc)
- Starting resources would be carried in the colonists inventories instead of just being drop podded. You have to manually drop to use them though.
- You would be given just enough time to prepare light defenses like sandbags before the enemy arrives.
- I'm unsure of this but perhaps starting with at least 5 colonists for it to be a bit more action-y and tactic-y

Stories / Life on the Rim
June 28, 2015, 07:15:49 AM
(I bit NSFW with the language)

I made a story about my very first colony in A7 and Rimwrold, and how it hooked me in. A story that follows Bennett McNegative, Space Marine Grim, Sverin, and Mosley the Cowardly Pirate.
Part 1:

"Hey, Bennett." A large man with a rifle resting on his shoulders called out to me, it was Grim.

"Yeah?"

"Finished those turrets yet? Those Hatchet scums might want their friend back."

"Heh... most of the turrets are pretty much done and I've already set up the sandbags. So just let them try." I smugly answered.

"Right. Anyways, Mosley seems desperate to get out of that cave..." Grim pointed his thumb over his shoulder. "Said he wants to help out."

"He can help out by rotting in that hole. Why the hell are we keeping him around anyways?"

"You know, we can't last all by ourselves here. We need more hands." Grim gave his response. "I'll ask Sverin for his opinion."

"Also kidneys, hearts, lungs, eyes, and oh yeah legs too." I thought to myself. Missed an opportunity with last week's trader.

"Hey. Also ask him how many units of steel we have left while you're at it." came out of my mouth instead.

"Alright."
Grim went on inside. I was left alone sitting on one of the sandbags. Staring at the sunset.

This was pretty much how it went on every day for us. Looking at the inevitable future and preparing for it. It's been a few weeks since we first set foot here...
Ah, remembering when it happened. How can one forget such warm and happy memories?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Earth-Class June 9, 5500. The Class-B Planetary Liner we were onboard on was on its merry way out of this system, cheerfully moving at the slowest speed imaginable. Then it happened to pass by this Rimworld, intending to smell some muffalos on the way home. All was dandy n' fine...
Then it diddly-doo-fucking happened.
Without warning, a barrage of railgun shots resembling massive bricks of plasteel erupted from the Rimworld. Their destination: Our fucking ship. Hull integrity and oxygen levels went plummeting, and holes man... holes.
"Alert, alert, situation critical." the AI's feminine voice boomed the speakers.
"This is not a drill; please calmly head over to the escape arm for access to escape pods. This is not a drill."
Screams, explosions and metal chunks ripping assailed my ears from multiple directions. I was working in the Engineering Section; not even the loud humming of the reactor could drown the sounds of suffering.
"Fuck this, I'm out of here." I sprinted towards the Escape Arm just a few walks down.
*FZZZZZZTTTTT...*
*BOOM*
*...*
*BOOMFZZTBOOMFZZTBOOM*
The Battery room was hit.
The wide hallway went dark as *WEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNGGGGGGGGG* filled the air, the emergency siren repeatedly gave out the ship's dying cry. I slowed down and used my hands to navigate through the dark, careful not to trip on anything. Upon reaching the end of the hallway, the red backup lights turned on, illuminating the words that read "Escape Arm".
The white airlock doors flung open, revealing a long wide hallway with steel pods lining both sides. Surprisingly, very few drop pods were taken, and there weren't that many people around. Guess not everyone's that lucky. I shrugged off the thought and wasted no time entering a pod. Inside were the standard survival necessities:
-   A knife.
-   10 Packs of cardboard flavored shit.
-   A handful of silver scraps.
-   5 Medkits
After quickly looking over the contents, I strapped in, locked the pod doors and prepared myself. As soon as the doors were closed, silence reigned.
Then I went over the control screen located on the door...
.Situation critical; unlocking pod controls.
The green text illuminated the inside of the pod. A vein popped in my head.
"What. The. Hell... nearly 3000 years of space faring and we still use these old pieces of shit? "
"Who fucking made these? Tribals? Jesus christ... at least insert in a voice module."
Having been raised on a pretty technologically advanced Midworld, I had the right to complain.
What would have been a pretty intense "crash" landing in theory is basically as remarkable as taking a dump while reading holo-news.
I released the lock on the door. I was greeted by the scene of the starry evening sky, multiple pods entering the atmosphere like a fiery orb and the flaming remains of our ship slowly meeting its demise. I would say it was a pretty beautiful moment if you don't include the dozens of people dead and the fact that you're pretty much fucked as well. But thank god it wasn't headed were I was so I could at least enjoy the view.
I climbed out to see other two other pods softly landing a few meters away. I quickly went over to the closest pod. The pod doors opened and I lent my hand to the occupant.
"Hey, you alright?"
"Uh... t-thanks. I'm fine." The man hesitantly answered.
I helped him out of his pod. I noticed at the corner of my eye that the other person got out of his as well. His silhouette was waving at us. He calmly walked towards us, rifle in hand. As he got nearer, it looks like he was getting bigger as well.
"So... guess I'm stuck with you guys, eh." He cracked a smile.
"Looks like it. W-who are you anyways?" I asked nervously. Hell, he was holding a gun!
"Ah, can't disclose that, bud. But I'm called Grim. I'm just an off-duty marine. Or at least was..."
Wow, intimidating and charismatic.
"What about you two?"
"I'm Carl Bennett, an engineer."
"I-I'm Sverin P-Pendersen, I'm a h-human activist, sir." The man next to me nervously answered.
I'm not into social crap so what the heck is a human activist? You know what; I don't even want to know.
"Bennet and Sverin, huh... alright." Grim nodded in acknowledgement.
"So folks, what now? Mr. Bennett, any ideas?"
"What, why me suddenly?"
Grim and Sverin ignored my question and looked at me for an answer.
"Fuck me." I groaned and went to my pod and grabbed one of the pamphlets inside.
