If the turret isn't shooting at them, why would they attack it? Also, certain smaller animals shouldn't be able to damage turrets as easily as they can now, like squirrels.

I've noticed that as my pawns are loading a lot of supplies onto transport pods they don't stop to rest or eat and I think there's a bit of a pathfinding but because even drafting and undrafting them causes them to just wander around instead of eating or sleeping. It's particularly annoying since if you're doing a raid the colonists are starving, exhausted, and with really low moods when you get there.
#3
One of my colonists recently got married so his mood bar was as high as it could be, from the honeymoon effect, opinion of his wife, comfortable furniture, etc. Somehow he still started a fire while tending to a patient. Is this supposed to happen? Is the fire-starting break not tied to mood or is this a bug?

This could be similar to the peace talks agreement. Say a tribe was raiding you and lost some raiders, and a colonist was kidnapped. You should be able to bring the bodies of tribespeople back to them and get the colonist's body back if they died after being kidnapped, and there should be an opportunity to exchange prisoners for prisoners or pay ransom.

General Discussion / Are smokepop belts worth it?
July 16, 2017, 08:11:08 PM
Does it make sense for my colonists to wear smokepop belts or should I avoid making them? Do they help much in combat? I could see them helping if I was attacking a item stash or outpost with turrets, but do they help for base defense?

Ideas / A way to mark rooms as "No Thru Traffic"
December 21, 2016, 09:04:14 AM
In my latest colony, the freezer is adjacent to both the fields and the kitchen. It has a field door and a kitchen door. I did this so haulers could just walk in instead of going the other, longer way from the fields, which requires walking around a big warehouse and prison cells. However, everyone started using the freezer as a hallway so it was at about 60 degrees Fahrenheit when I looked. It would be helpful if I could mark the room as "No Thru Traffic" so that people couldn't pathfind through it, but they could pathfind into it if they had a task to do in there, such as dropping off crops, picking up crops to bring to the kitchen, dropping off hunted animals, dropping off meals, or repair work/cleaning in that room. Making it a zone that only my haulers and cook have access to is problematic for 2 reasons. The first is that basically everyone in my colony is either a cook or a hauler so it wouldn't really decrease the amount of traffic going through it. The second is that colonists with access can still use it as a hallway.

If this was added it would also be useful for bedrooms with 2 doors.

Stories / Parker's Summit
October 02, 2016, 10:52:03 PM
Parker's Summit was in a very nice spot high in the mountains, among lakes and headwaters of rivers. It was solidly built out of sandstone bricks and it was tucked right against a marsh and a sandstone cliff. The average visitor wouldn't know by looking at it that a complex system of tunnels and rooms occupied the interior of the sandstone and slate mesa, and that in the center of the mesa there was an open space for crops and a mortar. It seemed to be a sleepy place, judging from the turrets slowly turning in their mounts, the dilapidated dock leaning into the marsh, and a communications antenna with its red bulb languidly blinking. It had been founded by a man named Parker Wu, who suggested the name to his fellow colonists Cole Barner, Anastelle Decena, and Danielle Rea when it was little more than 3 crudely built shacks. Over the course of its existence, the colonists convinced others to join and were found by their relatives as well. A man named Nicolas Mercier was the first to be convinced. Before that, Parker's mother, Katten Wu, had joined them. Rea's father Maxim joined as well, along with a man named Ham and a girl named Key (I pronounce it rhyming with "way"). Later, a boy named Colon joined, along with Parker's lover Graye. Unfortunately, lives were lost in Parker's Summit. Katten was the first to die, after she came down with the flu. Tragically she had recently wed Barner and it was the sadness caused by her death which caused him to take up smoking flake. Mercier later died in a fight after a grenade was thrown at him and he wasn't fast enough to escape. The big fall of the colony came during an attack by mechanoids. Ham, Colon, and Anastelle were killed during the attack and Maxim, Key, Barner, Parker, and Rea were injured in the fight and ended up rescuing and healing each other. A hazy record follows this but it was a time of fighting, misery, despair and infection. Key and Barner were euthanized to end their suffering. Their infections had gotten too bad to treat. Rea died of an infection while she was building a coffin for Barner. During this mayhem is specifically when Graye joined, and all she could do to help was to treat the remaining colonists, at this point it was just her and Parker since Colon decided to leave. He had joined to escape pirates chasing him so it wouldn't be fair to euthanize or doom him. Parker still had a bad infection and Graye moved him to the hospital and tried to treat him, however, it was in vain. He died, and since she wasn't stong enough to move the bodies, she welded the door to the hospital shut and painted a warning on the wall outside. "DO NOT ENTER. DEAD INSIDE. PLEASE BURY IN COFFINS, WHICH ARE IN MEMORIAL ROOM." Parker's wolf, Chloe, who had been with the original 3 since the start, was enraged at at Parker's death. She attacked Graye viciously. Graye died on the rec room floor, just outside the welded hospital door, paintbrush still in hand.

(A note about Colon leaving. I captured him and opened up the prison so he would escape.)

General Discussion / How do you deal with infestations?
October 02, 2016, 11:38:38 AM
For me infestations are usually huge problems that down half of my colonists while raids are simple and easy to deal with. What is the best strategy for dealing with an infestation? Even with good weapons you can't really use them in the tunnels and the colonists just get ganged up on by the bugs. It would be nice if the initial bug spawns were a bit smaller so you don't have to immediately deal with 4 megaspiders and 4 assorted smaller bugs. The infestation should start small and if you don't deal with it quickly it becomes a bigger problem.

Stories / Colonists' Wedding
October 01, 2016, 01:23:53 PM
2 of my colonists, Barner and Katten, just got married. This was the song playing during the wedding.

It's kinda cheesy but also sounds really optimistic.
Also during the wedding Maxim and Anastelle became lovers.

Ideas / Slight melee change
September 20, 2016, 08:13:09 PM
I just saw a colonist taking damage from an arctic fox's bite... when the fox was 4 cells away from the colonist. It looks really stupid and is also frustrating because you think, "Oh, the colonist is outrunning the fox... Wait, no, she's still being hurt by it." So i think it would be nice if melee could only work if they were touching, even while moving.

General Discussion / Animal Rescue doesn't work?
September 18, 2016, 12:28:17 PM
I have a trained wolf in my colony and she recently finished rescue training, except a raid just happened and we had won, although 3 colonists were downed. I have 5 colonists and the wolf so I couldn't rescue everyone at the same time. The wolf IS set to rescue people but there was a colonist lying incapacitated on the ground and she just targeted the fleeing raiders, and when they were gone she just followed her master who was rescuing another colonist.

Has anyone else had the same problem?

Off-Topic / A game I am making on Scratch
September 14, 2016, 07:43:32 PM
Me and my friend are working together to make a game. It is called Freedom Fighter 2030 or Cowboys vs. Commies, (both AMAZING names so I can't decide), and THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A TERRIBLE GAME!

Description:
It's 2030 and the evil liberals have banned country music because it is "Non-PC." Because of this, country singer Lenny Burton is out of work and applies for a job handling baggage at an airport. He falls asleep in the baggage compartment and the plane takes to the sky with him still asleep. However, the baggage compartment breaks open midflight over Russia, and he miraculously survives the landing. Armed with a pistol that has 10 bullets, he tries arresting Russian civilians for "crimes against the U.S.A." and is stopped by the KGB. (It isn't supposed to be historically accurate.) He is put in a prison in east Russia. He manages to send word to the U.S. Army, who tell the government about him but are prevented from acting since the evil liberal president is in cahoots with Russia. The U.S. Army sends a rescue mission in anyway from Alaska, but they are really coming as reinforcements and they plan to go west across Asia and Europe, all the while taking prisoners which they will drop off in Italy. (They don't really know geography very well.)

A work-in-progress version:

Again, THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A TERRIBLE GAME!

Ideas / PLEASE make a separate warning for infections
September 01, 2016, 06:05:15 PM
After a raid when I'm preoccupied with other things like restoring power, treating severe injuries, and the like, I often forget to treat colonists for infections, so it often ends up with the colonist dying with the infection at extreme. When the "colonist needs treatment" warning has been present since the first combat injury, I forget about it so I don't remember that a colonist is sick and needs treatment.

Ideas / Make sappers only attack your colony
September 01, 2016, 08:17:04 AM
I just lost a colony because a sapper opened an ancient danger, released the mechs and cryptosleep people, and the mechs and cryptosleepers cancelled out the raiders, but then the ancient danger was left open and an infestation spawned there. It later broke out, and I had to fight it sooner or later but lost because I didn't deal with it sooner. (There was a tribal raid that caught me off guard and burned down my house, so I was pretty busy.) I think if your colonists don't repair damaged walls that you haven't claimed, couldn't the same system be applied for sappers so that they don't attack stuff that isn't yours? I think it would be realistic for them to not attack the first artificial construction they see.

Local sources still don't know when the attack commenced, but the county sheriff said that the forensic investigator thought that the hillbilly settlers were caught off-guard by a tribal raid while standing guard near an infestation. Sometime during or after the raid, a large part of the shack caught fire, and the fire spread into the brewery, 2 bedrooms, the main hallway, and the workshop. The fire chief said that it appeared that the residents were able to stop the fire just in time, but it did destroy a large part of the shack and burn most of the meals sitting in storage. The wounded settlers recovered, however one walked into the infested ruin that the hillbillies were previously guarding and collapsed from injuries. The hillbillies seemingly tried to fight the infestation with machine pistols and grenades, but that was unsuccessful and the coroner reports that at least open of the colonists was either killed or severely wounded by grenades. It appeared that the settlers were trying to rebuild the shack when the one settler wandered into the infestation, because the freezer coolers were freshly patched, the freezer had recently been repaired, and a cook stove was being built near it, presumably to replace one in the burned-out workshop.

I just realized that this ALL was caused by some idiot sapper who thought the ancient danger was part of the colony, because he opened the area which allowed the infestation to start.

Stories / The Battle of Sparland, 5503
August 14, 2016, 04:49:40 PM
Beginning of fight:
3 colonists of the Sparland settlement observed a ship part land near the underground prison in the north section of their base. A colonist with grenades and one with a charge rifle were sent out to break the ship part. However, 3 scythers and 1 centipede emerged and quickly killed those colonists while a mortar operator was able to keep firing without effect on the battle as the shells never scored a hit until the stress caused by recent deaths in the colony and the psychic waves emitted by the ship part caused her to break down and attempt to fight the mechanoids hand-to-hand. This was fatal to the operator and she later bled to death in the marsh where she was shot.

Escalation:
A nearby scout for The Reaper Lineup, a local criminal gang, heard the explosions from the mortar, so a huge group of pirates moved into the fight to find the mechanoids with little to no damage. 10 pirates died while fighting the mechanoids. A party from Village-at-the-ridge, a small outlander town, soon arrived to attempt to keep the pirates from gaining new equipment and supplies. They fought the pirates in the settlement while small fires began to spread. Strangely, a fire suppression system in a food-storage room failed to go off and most of the food supply was burned.

The fight left many townspeople wounded, and several died afterwards due to this. The mechanoid hive was picking up signals from the damaged centipede and sent 3 more centipedes into the fight, where more townspeople were wounded, as a small scout force from the pirates moved in, followed shortly by a larger group. The townspeople were able to defeat them but most were severely wounded. The final number of townspeople who lost their lives or were left behind in the battle is unknown, along with the number of pirates killed. However, the exact number of colonists from the colony is known.

(Put this music on now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYj8ciqAPcA)

Lost their lives in the above battle:
Fiolina German, 61
Aleksi "Pepe" Vanttinen, 19
Leslie Pearson, 47

Lost their lives previously in the colony:
Pavel Everett, 53
Mitchell Everson, 24
Kit Thurman, 54
Kristalia Astari, 26
Veniamin Kane, 54
Artemis Abel, 38
The following colonists lost their lives previously and their graves and bodies were destroyed so their names and ages could not be determined.
Shikego
Autumn

Rest in peace colonists of Sparland, the only colony of mine that survived 4 years.
11th of spring, 5499 - 14th of spring, 5503

Note: the colonists died before spring 14th but that's when the story ended. Also, I used Dev mode to add the raiders, townspeople, and 2nd mechanoid wave but it makes a cool story.

The name Sparland lives on as a Trainz Railroad Simulator route, the Sparland and Carrier Falls, a fictional 8.9 mile scenic railroad in upstate NY.

Stories / Frustration
August 14, 2016, 02:51:25 PM
I have 3 colonists and we are attacking a physic ship part. There are 3 scythers and a centipede. 1 colonist mans the mortar and hits the ship until the mechanoids spawn, as the 2 other idiots go berserk and run up to the mechanoids to punch them instead of taking their anger out on them by shooting them WHICH IS WHAT THEY WERE DOING BEFORE THEY WENT BERSERK! Then the mortar takes forever to load and fire as the 2 formerly berserk colonists lay on the ground. It finally fires and guess what? It completely misses the mechanoids. But, it did hit something. One of the unconscious colonists on the ground. Luckily it didn't kill them but the situation seems unwinnable now. Nothing short of a wanderer joining will work since I have a wealthy colony, but only a few people, so if someone asks for help a huge force of about 7 raiders will come to our base.
